More Life Lessons
It has been quite awhile since I have posted a blog here. For awhile, it was because there just was not much to post about and for the past 5 or 6 weeks it has been due to the after-effects from a medical event that I have been recovering from. But I am back to the point where I need and want to get back on track and moving forward!
On the afternoon of October 12, I was packing my car for a vendor show when I experienced a quick stab of pain right behind my eyes. It was very brief and then it was gone. I did not think much of it at the time, and went on with my day. The only reminder that I had was a slightly stiff neck.
Two days later, I still had the stiff neck but no other symptoms, My boyfriend convinced me to go to the emergency room to be checked out. Once I told the nurse what I had experienced, she immediately talked to the doctor and I was being taken for a CT scan. A short time later, the doctor came in and explained that the scan had shown a brain bleed and I needed to be flown to a larger hospital 3 hours away to have it treated,
I spent 11 days in intensive care followed by 8 days in a rehab unit at that hospital. I do not recall a lot about the first 3 days other than what my daughter has told me, I did undergo a procedure where they placed a coil on the aneurysm that caused the bleed on October 15 and my daughter spent 6 days at the hospital with me. When I finally started to be aware of what was going on around me, we discovered that I was experiencing considerable weakness on my left side as well as double vision.
I was discharged from the hospital and returned home on November 2, I am slowly building strength on my left side and now only have double vision when I am in a moving vehicle or in a building with fluorescent lighting. I also tire very easily. However, these issues are much better than what I could have been facing! The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday here in the US has me counting my blessings like I never have before -- and I am determined that I will beat what I am currently dealing with!
I hope this Thanksgiving week finds you and yours healthy and blessed as well!

Wishing you a very speedy recovery. That must have been a very scary experience.
Take some rest.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen
OH, MY!!!
I spent about 2 days in intensive care once and I thought that was a big...deal, but 11 days!!!
Glad to hear you're home, Kristin. I have a feeling that even if you just had cheese and crackers on the table, that it would end up being one of the best Thanksgivings ever for you and your family!
I had a similar experience in 2012. You don't remember the period of sedition in ICU at all!
I am somewhat glad that I don't remember parts of it. From what my daughter told me, I was not a very nice person following the surgery! Not sure I could deal with remembering some of the things that she told me about!
