What is Attraction Marketing?

I am old enough to remember door-to-door salesmen. My goodness! What a cruel fate those poor foot soldiers must have endured. I actually remember my parents buying a set of encyclopedias from one such salesman. I imagine that he must have visited many many doors, and pitched hundreds of times before he made that one measly sale.

And of course, prior to the internet, the prevailing wisdom was that you knocked on doors, posted flyers and made hundreds of cold calls to your leads. You would then reel off a rehearsed pitch about a product that the prospect invariably did not want to know about. There was something else that they did not want in their life also. You.

But the advent of the internet began to change things significantly. Now, you did not have to pitch to a single lead, but you could pitch to thousands of leads all at the same time. This of course was a major breakthrough for the marketing industry, but there was still a big problem. Salesmen were still generally seen as a nuisance.

Then something began to happen. Crucially with the advent of the internet, it was discovered that prospects and leads were attracted to those who were knowledgeable about a subject. In fact it was discovered that teaching sells. Conversely, it became apparent that failing to teach and to educate would render you useless and invisible to your prospects and consign you to the marketing treadmill of cold calling and fighting for every single lead.

To become a successful Internet Marketer, it is vital to gather and to produce high quality content, and to establish yourself as an authority in your niche. Along with advertising products and services, the Internet is also a very powerful tool for selling people. And before you can ever be successful at selling products and services, you need to be an expert at selling yourself.

The way that top earners achieve their success is to convey the idea that, rather than being a marketer or even a salesman or woman, they become a trusted coach and adviser. And the way that they distinguish themselves from their competition is by differentiating the way that they present and package information. This can be done by specializing in a sub niche and/or creating content which is increasingly in depth and specialised.

The beauty of this kind of content marketing is that one single article can continue to fuel sales for months or even years after it was produced, and all for for free! And as you create quality content and establish yourself as an trusted authority in your niche, the viral nature of the internet can be leveraged to scale your business to limits that, not that long ago, were simply unimaginable. very well written. who doesn't hate cold calls and generic sales pitches?
the only thing I would like to add is that this can be done face to face, you just need to pick your time and audience.
house calls will normally fail but if you pick your moment right out in public, you can make a 'friend' and suggest a product rather than flat out cold sell to them :)
and business cards. never forget them.
tell them who you are, your business name and give them a card. they will look you up.

Yes, I agree with you, but what I would say...is that even
better than business cards....is writing your own book.

I did a blog on this subject a short while ago. If you self publish
on Createspace you can buy your own book for cheaper than
the cost of a Platinum business card! And then you can hand
your book out to prospects and they will be well impressed!

self publishing a book like that sounds like a good idea but that won't sway everyone and even then, alot of prospect will want an upfront proposal rather than a book on your ideology to read
