I was just told by a friend that lots of Wordpress sites are being attacked right now and that the best thing to do to protect them is to install a plugin called Word Fence. How

I was told there is a massive attack under way, amounting to about 30,000 attacks per minute, which attempt to gain admin access to Wordpress sites. The person who warned me said he had experienced about 2,000 of these attempts on his site in just a couple of hours. He said the only way to stop this is to use Word Fence, but I cannot use this because of this missing key. The key looks like a very long chain of letters, numbers and other symbols.

I'm not sure what attacked means. If you are referring to the random post spam that seems to be appearing then you should be able to install a captcha plugin to prevent these spamming. Askimet requires a subscription in order to use.

What is happening is that people are using a third party service that are creating backlinks from all over the internet to improve a site's SEO ranking. Unfortunately Google still approves these backlinks.

I haven't used Akismet, because I was told I would have to lie about having a non-commercial site to register with them.

Hi! Im still new to the terms used but when I had my API key is that I got from Akisment. I believe that you have an Akisment plugin. Check it out. It would guide you on how to get an API key.

I cannot protect my site here as it does not have an APIkey
