What To Do When You Don't Have Time

Now that the spring semester has started, I have already noticed that I just do not have the time anymore..... What an excuse right? I agree. I am totally making excuses. So what do you when you don't have time?

Multi-tasking Disaster

One of my major selling points regarding my professional resume, is my genuine ability to multi-task. Everyone claims they can do it well, but the reality is, most people can do it, but they do not multi-task well. They leave things unfinished, a million projects get started, and nothing is done with 100% effort. You are allowing yourself to be pulled in a million directions.

There is no shame in being someone who cannot multi-task well. My husband is not someone who can multi-task well, if at all. You know what advantage that gives him? A HUGE advantage. He creates internal deadlines, he gives all of his focus to a project, and the project is done effeciently and it is done well! I get jealous of that. My inability to focus on one thing has always been a curse. He can actually be thinking of "nothing" and I can never think of "nothing."

So, despite my huge selling feature of being extremely good at multi-tasking for my professional career, the same can not be said about my personal life and my desire to flourish as an online affiliate. Why is that? I really had to break it down today. I'm an asset at my job, even when I wasn't directly employed, I was used as a consultant. I'm efficient and I'm good at it. However, without forced deadlines, all these projects get started and get finished "whenever I get to it." Do you see the problem!?

Stop Multi-tasking, Sort Of.

Wait....what?! I can't stop that, I'll never get anything done. In addition to working, maintaining my home, running all the errands and grocery shopping, advanced science classes for college, active officer for honor society, and volunteering; I'm also trying to succeed here at WA. So, how can I possibly do that? There are only so many hours in the day.

So with my school work, I create study guides and videos that help me learn. I play those on a loop in the background while doing housework, grocery shopping, or paying bills. I'm able to multi-task. If I play this in the background, it does get into my subconcious. I dedicate 16hours per week to my microbiology class, 13 hours to my geology class, and about 15 hours to algebra. That is more time than a regular full time job. But this is necessary to maintain a high GPA and remain as an active officer for the honor society.

So, I cannot fit in the time to build my online business. Right? Wrong! This is where I have to stop multi-tasking! I can multi-task every else, but here, I need the focus.

How To Do It

So, here's how I'm going to do it. I should be super thankful to my instagram, without it, I would not have realized that I'm already slacking on my WA sites. Since I get notifications, I had someone say "Hey I haven't seen this on your site...where can I find it." I realized, I needed to get right in there and do it.

Set TIMED goals. There is actually training that tells you to do this. I just did a blog about it a few weeks ago. The important thing here is time. You have so little of it, so be fair with yourself. You can spare five hours per week. Less than one hour per day. I can commit to that. I will make myself. One day I will commit three hours, and four days I can commit 30 minutes or so.

This varies from my previous goals. The great news is that as you change and grow in your life, so can your plans to reach your goals.

Today I have spent about 2 hours already and created another post. I'll probably use the rest of the time to focus on the training. It is so important to follow the training! Make the time for it, this is how you will succeed. Without the training, you are just guessing. If you're only multi-tasking, nothing is ever getting 100% of your focus.

You can do this!

It'e been scientifically demonstrated that multi-tasking is not more efficient because work on the tasks in accomplished less accurately.

Basically, nobody multitasks well, they just think they do :)

This is an excellent post and a great reminder. Sometimes we are so busy multi tasking or thinking we are that at the end of the day we look back and realize NOTHING actually got done. Setting a timer is an excellent way that streamlines our thinking and action into focus.Well done.

Thank you! I definitely realized the importance for focus within WA. Thank you so much for your feedback.
