Google's created search ranking algorithm update to compensate product reviews with in-depth research.

Google launches the product reviews search algorithm update, created to rank well-researched, in-depth content with short product reviews.

This is not a core algorithm update that hits all search results. This update focuses on product reviews explicitly.

Google announces it created the product reviews update to compensate content that users discover the most valuable:

Google Search continually works to show the most valuable and helpful information possible through testing, experimenting, and review processes.

We know people welcome product reviews that share in-depth analysis, rather than weak content that reviews a collection of products.

That's why Google is sharing the development to our ranking methods, which Google calls the product reviews update, that's designed to reward such content fully.

Importantly the update only hits English-language search results.

This update will not impact websites that do not publish product reviews.

Websites that publish product reviews should vigilantly watch their traffic and scan for anything out of the normal.

The algorithm update immediately goes into effect, which means site owners may already see traffic and ranking changes.

Any unexpected spike or fall in search traffic, beginning April 8, possibly means a site was affected by the product reviews update.

Despite any traffic developments, site owners should maintain a note to Google Analytics. And any additional monitoring tools. To show the product reviews update operated live.

What if the Product Reviews Update Impacted My Site?

The updated product reviews focus on presenting users with content that contributes insightful critiques and primary research.

Moreover, Google Search strives to prioritize product reviews composed by authorities or fans who know the subject thoroughly.

Website owners who think they've been affected by the product reviews update should study Google's guidance on generating more genuine content.

Judge the review the content impartially and examine your product reviews:

  • Express expert knowledge about products where appropriate?
  • Show what the product is like physically, or how it is used, with unique content beyond what's provided by the manufacturer?
  • Provide quantitative measurements about how a product measures up in various categories of performance?
  • Explain what sets a product apart from its competitors?
  • Cover comparable products to consider, or explain which products might be best for specific uses or circumstances?
  • Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of a particular product based on research into it?
  • Describe how a product has evolved from previous models or releases to provide improvements, address issues, or otherwise help users make a purchase decision?
  • Identify key decision-making factors for the product's category and how the product performs in those areas? For example, a car review might determine fuel economy, safety, and handling are key decision-making factors and rate performance in those areas.
  • Describe essential options of a product's design and their impact on the users beyond what the manufacturer states.

The above suggestions are compatible with Google's intention of rewarding the most helpful product reviews.

Also, reviews will have a more challenging time ranking in search results if they only have short versions of products.

Reviews with short versions of products are generally viewed on affiliate sites, concentrating more on making fast commissions than contributing actual value to the consumer.

Site owners are required to publish holistic critiques of products, including examples of comparable products and comparisons to prior repetitions of the same product.

Present quantitative interpretation when possible, such as the results of rate analyses if you're evaluating a computer and other data to help buyers make a buying decision.

Google will pay close deliberation to whether a review gives knowledge beyond what the manufacturer provides.

Take caution and don't go to the product page and revise what's now on the web.

Cheers,

Kevin
