This is a blow to many websites that are all about how to live healthier by natural nutrition and or alternative medical methods that go against the medical mainstream advocates. If you are not a practicing doctor or can show proof of your credentials chances are Google isn't going to allow your website in any search results.

The above screenshot is from GreenMedInfo dot com which depicts the Sites like DrAxe.com, Kellybroganmd.com and Naturalnews.com saw most of their traffic removed overnight.

Mercola.com, a whistleblower and advocate against Big Pharma for a long time, has been hit the hardest. In fact, signs of the coming purge came back in 2016, when GlaxoSmithKline signed a $715 million contract to partner with Google. What does this mean to you and I? Is this cencorship at the highest level?

I have no problem with it personally as I can prove all my credentials and I post them on my website. There are way too many un-qualified people giving out health and fitness advice within my niche.
I do not approve of censorship, but facebook, google, and amazon all are too big for their britches in my opinion. It is sad but we have to play by their rules. It does not mean we can't beat the at that game.

Bring it Google.

Mark

Wow.
This is certainly a worry !

All my material is getting through and I write on alternative health. They are also listing my posts. Maybe I am too small to bother them. Joe Mercola is very influential and has thousands of followers.
Alister

Another good reason why Big pharma needs to be bought to task.

Derek

I agree. A lot must be done to curb Big Pharma from influencing what people learn about their drugs.
Ken

This is THE BEGINNING OF THE END for Google. Greed unimaginable. I pray Microsoft Edge uses the opportunity to thrive. They need to SINK into oblivion, honestly.

I thought the same thing about now is the time for Bing and yahoo to step forward to get a bigger piece of the pie.
Ken

Wow
. This is certainly a worry. Jim

This action may have tinted our belief somewhat that Google is not taking sides. What are the motives behind regulating search results about alternative natural healthy nutrition? I don’t see the benefit.
Ken

But why?? Is Google against healthy living??

they are (were) making too much noise against the establishment - making claims that every modern cure was bad and could make us ill.
it is a bit like you telling a boss that he has made a bad decision every time that he makes a decision.
they do not promote themselves correctly, there is a lot of truth in wat they say, but the way they have gone about it...
but this maybe a publicity stunt ot raise their profile.
we wil see
phil

This is really serious. I can't wait to see what happens next.

totally agree, but shows that you shouldn't just rely on organic traffic.
build a list, and make sure you know how to use paid traffic sources.
they will be relying on their list traffic for a while, but they will survive.
a lot of social media a while ago became stricter on health claims and shut down accounts that wouldn't comply, so for both sides a lot lost their accounts.
this maybe a result of the latest google algorithm changes, it is still going on, so they may bounce back in a few weeks.
take it as a lesson.

Absolutely. Building a list is the next strongest asset besides your website. You couldn't be more right about that.

No just GREED my dear. The big pharma is doing to Google what they did to most health professionals, putting them on their payroll to dispense useless medications that make people sicker.

This is a terrible situation. I've learned a lot about natural remedies and foods over the past years and I've relied solely on them and they work! I've not been to the hospital since early 2017, which was not the case before. I will stick to what I've learned and continue to avoid the pharmacy. No matter the drugs I take in, I always have a stomach ache. The side effects only make it worse. These modern medicines work for many, but what if I live a lifestyle to avoid falling sick and even reverse my sick condition,? I definitely love the preventive lifestyle. It's cheaper. Just my humble take.

I also check duck duck go when I don't trust google.

I had just read that article you cite right before I came here. GG gets paid well to be mainstream, it appears.

Hopefully, this move by Google has a purpose that makes the Internet a better place and not just to punish those who differ from the mainstream medical practices. Time will tell.
Ken

You left out the other main purpose, to enrich google

Yea I stopped short of suggesting it’s all about money. However this now opens the door to other not so friendly influences, like, for example, what if Monsanto wanted to silence the websites about their deadly Roundup?
Ken

has it been proven that google is for sale or is it google doesn't think the results are relevant.
Google is in business and will give the end user what they want, and always has done, to make money - it doesn't give a stuff about who is on the list as long as it is relevant.
I have followed greenmed for a while and they have been shouting 'unfair' for a while now. but for me they have overstepped their line by trying to rubbish things which have been proven to improve the nations health.
am i one for modern medicine... it has its place, as does old medicine.
but what you don't get are the modern medicine manufacturers saying the old ways are bad, all they say is ' this is easier' and people like easier.
ok they have now lost their organic traffic, but can they still buy traffic, either on google or other search engines or on social media...i know that fb started culling their ads and accounts due to what they are saying, but do they change ....no...so what do they expect.
say the same thing but in a different way.
have i read the full report...no.
but google has always been for sale.

phil

Thank you for your viewpoint. I found it ironic even though they brought up a good point. Like the boy that cried wolf, things are not always like they seem. After the dust settles the truth will find its way to the top.
Ken

Well, the thing is, it's Google's site, so Google's rules. These sites will have to find other traffic sources. Hopefully they can recover.

- Christina

You are right about Google. What Google deems necessary, Google does. I see both sides of the argument, though. It looks like mainstream medicine has won the argument, for now. I just hope that the truth will surface. What happens to the hundreds of websites that try to report alternative medicinal methods of helping people with health issues? Will their voice not be heard because of this change with the king of search engines? What's next, affiliate marketing? Something to think about.
Ken

It will have a devastating effect.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, and Google is influenced by money just like every major organization. I'm just not sure what we can do about it except look into other traffic sources.
