killing time
i'm running into difficulties creating my webpage. chances are I deleted something I wasn't supposed to and may have to start over. fortunately, I didn't get very far. I decided to take a break for now and i'll go back to it with fresh eyes later. in taking my break, I decided to update my profile, but that started getting a little long so I ended that and now i'm here. I have just passed my 24 hour mark of becoming a member and so far I really like what this place is about. I've explored the website and I think one day I might aim to become an ambassador. not for any perks or incentives. I just really like how that sounds. ambassador kissiah (say what?!!). I just want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. also, be on the look out. if I go back to my website after my break and am still encountering problems, you can bet I will be posting questions. you've been warned.

I redid my 1st site 3 times in the same day! (good practice I guess) Problem was I was unhappy with .url name and the only way to change it was delete and restart! Good luck at WA. Just take it step by step.
i appreciate the input. :-) but i figured out that i watched a lesson and instead of going to the next, i accidentally stayed on my website to continue working on it and was trying to do things he hadn't explained yet...lol
No Problems with the new question future Ambassador Kissiah. As for the chances of deleting pages either by accident or otherwise what i do is first create my pages in Microsoft Words or whatever programes you may have. I have a folder called Wealthy affiliate the sub folders for each website and so on. As each pages, post, blog whatever is created I first save to that the gradually transfer to my website,
Also don't forget if you do transfer this was any word documents you will need to go to Text field first on the page you are putting information on.There is a lesson on that by Kyle but if you need help you know what to do. Ask your question someone will herlp and by the way there are no wrong, silly, dumb or waste of time questions here all question are of value if not just for you maybe also for someone else. so fired away and head forward to have the making of a successful person.
Take care be well and take the break when you feel the need. Balance your life and never lose your interest.
Andre
I read somewhere that because of the "extras" Word .doc throws into a text file, one should put it through a notepad file before transfer to web, as this will strip the document of any 'nasties'. Not 100% sure of this but I create my stuff in or transfer via .rtf just in case

Too bad you're not a premium member yet. I could answer technical questions about Wordpress via private messages. But you can always post questions straight on my profile.
I will be one day...lol...and I figured out what I did wrong soon after I posted this.
Good. The number one rule about Wordpress...it is easy. Kinda. To post things, and to get a site up and running. But to have it do what you really want 100%? It's annoying. I've build custom Wordpress things from scratch, as well as used more advanced things, and I always get as frustrated as some one with out experience using it :p
I was actually on your profile about to ask a question when I saw the notification for your comment. here's the deal...I am using the vortex theme. I don't want the comment box on my homepage. I did what I was told and went to discussion (in settings) and unchecked the top 3 boxes. one of them was even labled "allow users to comment". it did not work.
Yeah., let me look at that Votex theme. I know the problem, and that's one of the various frustrations I ran into with Wordpress themes. Some themes are more flexible than others, allowing you to hide comment boxes. Other times you have to manually do things which...you may not want to do. I'll report to you in one moment.
awesome, thanks. I will seriously change themes over this..lol.
You may need to unless you're willing to get jiggy with some code. But I'm experimenting with the theme, even though I read something that may not be to your liking. ha.
i'll try whatever it takes. feedback is good, but i don't want it on my homepage. my homepage is nothing but like an overview of what the site is about. no need for comments there. that's like commenting on the blank insert on the first page of a book. how can you give good feedback if you haven't gone through and read it yet? comments aren't relevant on the first page. (at least not mine.)
Ah, ok...You're talking about the home page, right? It depends on how you want to present your home page. But generally, i don't like the whole "latest posts" thing on my home page...I like it to be a general welcome page laid out how I want it. Here's a stupid quick test
http://buckytest.siterubix.com/
What I did was go to Appearance -> Customize
Then you'll see at the bottom of the left hand nav
Static Front Page
Select "Front Page" and select the page you want.
THEN...
Go to Pages -> All Pages.
Select the Page you want to be your Front page
and click Quick Edit
Then Select the "Allow comments" check box to turn it off.
yes, exactly. homepage=welcome page. i'm going to give your way a try now...lol
yeah, and remember you can lay that out however you want...images...links...what ever you want. also, I think that side bar stuff can be hidden, but in this type of site, I'd suggest keeping it so you get people clicking right away
holy crap!! it actually worked!! and it was sooo easy too. thanks thanks thanks
certain side bar stuff I might do away with. it all depends if I find a way to use it. I don't want stuff on there that does nothing.
I agree. But you do want to get people to wander the ought various links and posts on your site if they find your home page first. However I prefer the more pro standard home page format with huge billboard type image that's a slide show announcing what the site has to offer and exciting new things I want a call to action. The. Under that the "three or four call out boxes and icons" like a short cut to the most important part of the site. Then under that you'd have latest bold posts formatted to fit everything else.
ok, i see what you're saying. right now I've been focusing on any questions that might come up, seeing as my ability to ask live questions is running out. in between that, i write content. i'm also waiting to hear back from a non profit organization i want to promote to see if they're ok with that and if i can use some of their pics.
also, when do you think is a good time to index a site? i know there is always room for improvement and a site is "never done" but i don't want a half assed looking site out there either. i tend to get an idea for something, go to that page, write the jist of my idea and then go back and elaborate on it when i can. like, my about me page just has notes from kyle's lesson so i don't forget to include things he mentioned to do.
Tight. That sounds like you have ideas to roll with. I think your current problem is solved then. Hopefully you will upgrade to premium so you can ask more. But you know what? We could also chat on FB. I'll put my link on my profile
Don't worry about filling up your site with every idea you have. You want a clean home page, a post or two that are fleshed out. And you want to have a means for people to sign up to your mailing list so you can keep their attention and update them with new posts. or at least have a link to a FB page so they see new update there
ok. I can't wait for premium!..lol
Right? We can stay up all night tweaking our Wordpress sites! Ha!
lol..my uncle actually builds sites for a living, but this is something I want to learn on my own. another but...he did offer to let me use his companies shutterstock account...lol
Actually knowing how to fight with Wordpress is good. But the eventual goal is you'll earn enough money to afford outsourcing people to do the menial tasks, or even the stuff you just don't want to do. I know people who come up with topics, and hire writers. And now they have an editorial staff who comes up with the topics, they just approve them and then off they go to the contractors.
I actually have another niche in mind that might do well.i'm just focusing on what i have already as website building practice before i move on.
What's your other niche?
And That's how I'm doing it too. I'm just using Affiliate Bootcamp to get me started and then move on towards what I know more about. However, my ultimate goals are product creation, as I used to own a teeshirt design company, and was a designer/illustrator so I'm using affiliate marketing to fund those things :)
Nice. Pdf files of worksheets to be bought by homeschoolers.
There you go! And you can build that up to provide print versions as well. In fact, you should look into print on demand services, and eventually plan an app for Tablets and mobile phones with pen inputs so they can write straight to screen
I'm definitely keeping in touch with you...lol. my uncle gave me the idea his kids are homeschooled and his wifeis part of a homeschool community and he said they buy the most basic stuff and sometimes ridiculous because they don't always have the time to do them themselves.
You can contact me all you want. You rule and are fun to talk to because you're totally into stuff. Not just the marketing either. I lov inspired people
I'm going to have to research different lesson plans for different age groups and come up with my own material.but i'm great at research.
Thanks! That's very nice of you to say.
Product development is still my main passion in all of this, but the beauty of affiliate marketing is it allows you to hone in on marketing techniques and statigical thinking first, and not worry about completing your offer right away. It helps you think in "audience" and what you can offer for value to them. The big problem with most business owners who create their own products is they get artist mentality. They make something that reflects who they are and what they're into. It's also an ego thing. They forget that others may not like it or want it. The unsaid reality about why businesses fail is because people get butt hurt when their products come to market and it's not well received. Affiliate marketing teaches you how to be more flexible and creative in finding how to gain more notice before working on your own ideas
you make very good points. i don't know why i'm just seeing this..lol
