Backdoor vs. Front Door

I'm looking in the corner where the editor is asking me whether this is a 'Success Post', can't really answer that, but I have come into some insights I thought I would share.

What I call the 'backdoor', is all the work we do to optimize our site to make it the best website we can, as far as speed, indexing, etc.

What I refer to as the 'Frond Door', is the meat of my websites; adding content, interacting with visitors (If you are lucky enough to have any yet), and in general making your website 'pretty'.

This last month, I have found my self spending at least four times as much time working on the 'backdoor' instead of working on my content. This is especially true with the new AMP'ed thingy.

I have had issues with trying to learn how to install Ad Words and Ad Sense into my sites and things have not gone smoothly there, so have spent time trying to figure that out and hopefully today after a phone call to Google, that is all sorted out.

I don't understand a lot of the questions my plug-in on AMP'ed for WordPress asks me, and have spent time trying to learn that, including reading their small beginners eBook of 50 pages long--any other eBook helper they have they of course want $$$, everybody wants $$$. These aren't what I consider cheap eBooks either, so I am expected to learn their plug-in without their help--because you have to pay for their help too!

So that is the background of the point I am trying to make; which is the backdoor is going to be barred and locked for awhile. It is actually taking away from my site instead of adding to it at this point. In fact with all these plug-ins recommended, my site health has gone down the tubes, especially with only having time to add one post to one website a day (I have 3 public and 1 private websites)

That means, I am going slower than a snail through honey, as far as building my baby websites. Today I have decided to concentrate on my content, particularly on one website. It is the one with the most traffic, but they stay long enough to look at what few woodworking plans I have and move on, probably to a website that has more variety to see. This makes me think, that the traffic I do have is becoming a negative for me, because there is not enough content for them to stay, I worry they won't come back and look again.

So for everybody offering their experience and knowledge to help me out, I apologize if I am unable at this time to follow your advice sometimes, because as it is now I am only getting a few hours of sleep trying to follow everyone's advice to help me.

Right now I am on information overload, and it is immobilizing me. This is the only way I can see to get unstuck. I had thought I was tech savvy, but this is too much for me right now, and most of the time I can't find the answers I need to help me take advantage of all of these wonderful people and their advice--and I do appreciate all of the time and effort these experienced people have put into trying to help me and make it stick in this slippery brain I seem to have.

Maybe after I get bored with inputting content (because I don't think you ever reach the end of building), maybe then my brain will settle down where i can absorb some of this.

Thank you to everyone in this community for being so helpful and encouraging, because I would not be as far along as I am if it weren't for you.

Maybe my attitude will change if I am ever making money instead of spending it too. Two months in and not even a nibble while I keep spending money is discouraging to say the least--maybe it wouldn't be if I didn't need the money I was spending, but I do.

I hope everyone has a wonderful, profitable, and most of all enjoyable week!!

I think we just need to be patient, understand our situation and keep going, Barbara, there's a saying "feelings are just visitors, let them come and go". Thanks for the read.

Hi Barbara,
I think Craig's suggestion is the best thing to do. Focus your time on you number #1 best site. I can't see myself working on as many as you are doing. It's a lot of work. I really hope things start getting better for you.

Hi Barbara,

It sounds like you are trying to do too much at the same time. You have 4 websites on the go?

My advice would be to take 1 website and focus on it. There is training below if you are having problems with the AMP plugin.

That's kind of what I was saying in a long-winded round-about way above. I love my woodworking site, it has the most activity, and has the most potential as far as monetizing it, The Smart Saw I feature on there is just a small one person operation and has agreed to let me be an affiliate for him, not only that but it is an AWESOME product (plans), After I make some money, I plan on making that CNC table myself--I can't wait!
