Error: 550 relay not permitted

I had difficulty establishing a connection from email to Wealthy Affiliate's Atmail Interface (Websites & Hosting tab). I tried changing passwords as well as deleting and recreating new accounts. No matter what I tried... I couldn't seem to get Atmail to work for me.

I thought using a 3rd-party mail client like MS Outlook would be easy, but I ran into a real hairy issue. I continued to get this strange error "The server responded: 550 relay not permitted". I didn’t find specific reference to it on WA, so I was slightly stumped on this one. Thanks the help from to kind WA member finding reference to this error on the Internet, I was able to figure out how to fix it.

Please enjoy the screen shots below. The settings are for POP3 email. My hope is that it is clear, concise and gets the job done. Most importantly, that it helps others in the community. Don't mean to sound like a stiff... I’m not very flowery. lol

Here are the settings when using your own domain and an email client OTHER than Atmail…

Set up a POP3 Account with your incoming mail and WA’s SMTP outgoing server settings

Here is where the magic happens… This step is SO important. Without it, you will not connect to email!

I'm so happy I found this. Thanks so much - You solved my problem I spend hours trying to figure out...

So glad I found this, thank you very much. This is exactly what I needed.

Excellent. Glad you found it helpful!

what account credentials do you use for the internet e-mail setting portion?

When you say internet email are you meaning in Outlook? Just making sure you aren't meaning internet mail like Atmail. The email client must be POP3.

Oh sorry I didn't specify clearly enough. Yes in outlook when I try to connect with to my atmail I have an system error 550. Right where you stated, "this is where the magic happens" for that step, what credentials do I need to use? my website credentials or my email credentials because I wasn't able to get passed that part. Thanks for the your quick response btw! really appreciate it

I had the same problem which is why I set up Outlook. I was unable to get Atmail to work with my domain and no one could figure it out. The instructions are for setting up a 3rd party email client... like Outlook, Outlook Express, Opera Mail, Dreammail, i.Scribe, etc.

Here is a link to a blog with 5 client reviews on other clients to choose from... http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-email-clients-to-help-ease-you-away-from-outlook/

I just realized what you were saying. You use your domain... not your email address. The actual domain (the email username isn't needed) and the password for the email account on that domain. It's really weird but that is the way it has to be.

great I will give it a try and get back to you! Thanks.

Great. Good luck. Let me know how it goes!

Thank you!
Ed

I do not know if it is because I used gmail but do not have this POP and IMAP thing

This only applies if you are using a 3rd party mail client, like outlook, etc.

thank you another thing learnt

Hi kingshopper I like your blog, But where is Pop and Imap Account Settings, Is the purpose getting emails from WA, Because everything is well As far as that's concern.

My Atmail wouldn't seem to work, so I had to find another email solution. These are POP3 setings. And thank you very much!
