The #1 Wealthy Affiliate BootCamp Lesson learnt: Work with the workers!
Within my few months here at Wealthy Affiliate, I have just learnt one of the greatest lessons with my BootCamp Referral program. Way too many people focus on QUANTITY. They sponsor dozens, even hundreds of referrals–which is great–but it is ultimately QUALITY that is the real key. Once you've found or developed 3-5 top-notch referrals, you're going to see a lot of great things happen with your commission every month.
How do you develop quality referrals? It's real simple: WORK WITH THE WORKERS!

When you see referrals who are working WA in your group, work with them!. Support them closely, and train them to do the things you do
It's, of course, more natural for us to let the workers in our group just do their own thing. After all, they got active without you even telling them to, except with the auto welcome messages from @Kyle and yourself. They don't need your help or support–or so you think.
Meanwhile, you're spending all your time trying to get the people who obviously don't "get it" to do something. As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink—yet you continue to try.
I have learnt that this is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing to build a successful business. I'm not saying you shouldn't follow up with those who don't immediately get active. You should. But don't spend ALL or even the majority of your time with this. And DEFINITELY DO NOT IGNORE your workers from the moment they become premium members

Indeed, the way you create those 3-5 "top-gun" referrals that you need is by treating them LIKE YOUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON THEM!. This is exactly what I plan to do. I don't have any yet, though I have many referrals
If you're not in touch with your best, hardest-working referrals at least every week, I'm sorry, but you're trying to win a race with a car that only has one wheel! This is one of the reasons why I once suggested to @Kyle that getting in touch with our referrals (via email, phone calls, private chatroom, or whatever) as well as being able to send one message to all your referrals with one click is paramount. Thankfully, he indicated he will be looking into this suggestion. Thank you again @Kyle
How many referrals will you have to go through to find your top guns?
That's of course difficult to say. What I can tell you though is that they're out there (or are ALREADY in your group), and you'll develop them so long as you deny your natural instincts and apply the proper focus (work with the workers!).

Just like in a deck of playing cards, you KNOW there are four aces. If you start working your way through the deck, the first ace may not come up for a while, but eventually it will so long as you keep going through the deck. And if you don't quit, you'll eventually locate FOUR aces. It's the very same principle with Wealthy Affiliate I believe; the aces are there.
Keep sponsoring affiliates, work with your workers, and success will happen.
Tip: Don't waste time on sceptics or pessimists. They will NOT succeed in WA or any other similar endeavor. They do not possess the qualities of a winner (this includes "rocking-chair advisors" who talk and talk, seem to know all the answers, but never act).

Hey Khan,
While I admire your enthusiasm and willingness to nurture, unfortunately I believe it's somewhat misguided.
Sorry.
The Bootcamp training and promoting Wealthy Affiliate as your primary source of income is all about QUANTITY at the end of the day.
I feel you are looking at this as a MLM opportunity, which it most definitely is not.
Your 3-5 "top guns" could all be millionaires, however, the only income you will EVER earn FROM THEM is from their monthly/annual memberships.
So, in effect, you could have 3 referrals who create online businesses with $10,000,000 annual turnover, and yet you will still only earn a MAXIMUM of approx $500 per year per referral, if these 3 referrals choose to become Annual Premium Plus members.
I'll repeat, this is not multi-level marketing, so your income is dependent on you, and you alone.
Now, I'll probably get shot down for this - but I don't honestly believe that many members go that "extra mile" for all of their referrals.
They may have produced their own guides. They will direct them towards the training, they will typically answer questions/queries, as and when they can.
However, if you consider that there are those who will easily make the 300 (Las Vegas) annual referrals, and have been doing so for 5, 10, or even 15 plus years.
That's a lot of referrals, and you can only give them limited time.
I would even say that I often see evidence of members doing everything within their capabilities to urge referrals to upgrade, even if these new members will never "get it" (your words not mine).
Personally, as rude or arrogant as it may seem, I would much rather make an assumption (yes, I know we shouldn't make assumptions) and say to someone, "Sorry, I don't think this is for you". Others, will simply take their monthly commission until that new member finally decides to leave.
I would go further to say that there are many members here who do NOT promote WA, and yet spend more time helping newcomers than those who do promote WA.
I know I certainly provide keyword research help for members, I structure article outlines for them, review their content, explain the article research process, find research material for them, and even write detailed reports for them containing all this information.
I've never charged anything for my time, whereas this type of service has as 3-4 figure hourly consultation rate.
And yet, I have never been involved in the Make Money Online niche, and I probably never will.
So, you can nurture your top "3-5" referrals as much as you want, your income is certainly not dependent on them. You will still only earn ONE commission, recurring or otherwise, per referral.
I guess you have a sales background, is that correct?
Unfortunately, as much as you wish to help your referrals, they definitely aren't your sales team.
Plus, I'm pretty sure you won't put countless hours in every single day to help just 3 people if all you're earning "from them" is $69 per month.
I know this sounds somewhat.cynical, but I feel I can say this considering the amount of help I give without earning a single cent in return.
Partha
Excellent advice, my friend! Gotta just lay it out there for some folks...grin.
Rudy
Hi there @Partha,
I want to thank you so much first for taking the time to go through my blog post. Much appreciated
secondly, for the detailed comment, you make on my post. I honestly agree with your comments on WA not being an MLM and hence the focus on 3-5 top referrals will only lead to one commission. I do understand that very well as I have taken my time to go through the training very well
Let me clarify my point a bit more. I am here for less than 3 months now. I have referred more, in fact, more than 100 I believe, and I don't have a single premium referral yet. I however have about 20 referrals who have set up their profiles and goals, giving me the 1$ bonus which can only be claimed after the 5% starter to premium.
I have taken this business as serious business, and I believe that by the time make 6 months or more here, I will certainly start having premium members if my rate of referral remains the same.
Now, when I talk about focusing more on the workers, I was referring to those who have set up their profile and goals already, as I believe these are the referrals who can easily become premium. I strongly believe that if we had the opportunity to privately contact referrals vis emails, phone or even send private chats or messages to them, we can easily convert more affiliates to premium.
The 3-5 top referrals certainly came across as an MLM situation. I know and understand very well that WA is not an MLM. My emphasis was to focus more on the few who have set up their profile. Maybe it didn't come out that well in my post
Thank you so much again for your time. I really do appreciate it
