How to tweet your featured Image - maybe this will help you, it feels good to help

Well, I have been part of this great community for over 3 months now and in that time have asked 34 questions of the general community. Apart from that I have had numerous one to one conversations via PM with really helpful members, which as why yesterday I was so delighted to be able to "pay it forward"

A fellow member who has been helpful to me sent me a PM. They had seen a few of my tweets which have the featured image and link and were frustrated that when they tried to tweet the image didn't show. Interestingly this was a problem that I had also had when first setting up my social media and I had taken me a few days, lots of reading and additional help of a member here to overcome the problem.

So this is the response that I gave and I'm delighted to say it has resolved the problem. I hope it makes sense to you and if it helps even one person I will be delighted.

"I had a problem with twitter when I first set up the account as when I tweeted the link worked but the images didn't show. I am using all in one seo and the sharaholic plugin for my social media buttons and it all seems to work ok. With Sharaholic you have to set up an account and link your social media accounts but I guess this is the same for all social share plugins

The only platform I had a problem with was twitter. I spent a few days asking questions and looking up answers online and the only solution I found was to manually add the featured image URL to the social settings tab of each post (so now I do this every time I produce a new post).

So if you click on a post and scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see the all in one seo pack (assuming you are using it). There are 2 tabs, main and social settings and you need to click on social settings. Within this there are 2 areas where you need to manually insert your featured image URL. That is the custom image line and the custom twitter image line.

Once I do this and save I am able to "tweet" a post directly from my site by using the tweet icon that is there from the sharaholic plugin (as I say this is linked to my account). I can also just copy and past the URL of the post/page from the top address bar and this also works.

I hope that makes some sense. There are 2 pictures below of the area that I have to add the featured image URL to. As I say not sure if your plugin works the same as shareaholic or if you are using the all in one seo, but certainly this was what caused me problems when I set it up and now it works fine"

"What I also find is that I have to update the post (assuming it is not a new post) and exit the post and then go back in again to check. What you should find is that you can now see all the images that are contained within the post. You should see that the featured one has a dot in the box next to it. I attach a screenshot of my latest post for you to show you what I mean along with the 2 lines where I have added the link"

"I hope that helps, I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck"

And that was it. I was so happy that this helped solve the problem, you have to bear in mind 4 months ago I hadn't turned a computer on for almost 10 years so yay.

Anyway just wanted to share and say it feels good to help

Have a good week everyone

Well, I am the first that should say Thank you to Kevin for helping me out solving the mystery Twitter. Thank you so much for your support, I would have never been to able to do it without your instructions. Thank you so so much!

Your welcome Barbara

My Twitter account has been suspended. I am not sure why. But I saved this blog for the future.

Very well explained, Kevin. We don't actually use Twitter (at least not yet) but even we could understand what you were saying. So your first (unofficial) training is a success.

Thanks guys, didn't feel it was sufficient for training but if it helps then I'm happy

Kevin

Hi Kevin, that is a super great post. Thank you for the share.

Welcome Michael

Thanks for sharing. I haven't ventured over to Twitter yet. I've starred this to return for future reference. Glad you included some pics. Nice progress on your site!

Thanks, hopefully you won't have the problem but if you do at least you have the answer
