Man's Best Friend
Yes we have been quiet in case you were wondering?
In fact I have not worked on our site for nearly 3 weeks.
The reason being: we are grieving because our beautiful Rocky dog was suffering too much and the time came to act and we had to ask the Vet for euthanasia 2 weeks ago. This Christmas was a very very difficult time as he was deteriorating.
He was an amazing friend and support. He lived to just one month shy of 15 which is very good it seems for pure bred Labradors.
We live on a few acres and my husband picked the perfect spot for his grave. When we look out from any window to the back yard we can see his knoll and grave stones.
My husband and I talked about Rocky having to go from us and how important it was not to let him suffer pain. Calling the Vet and deciding to call the vet were extremely hard things to do.
He had an amazing spirit and the last few months of his life were ones of giving much love and support to us.
What I haven't yet talked about here at WA is that my Hubby had to have urgent and life saving open heart surgery last October on the 10th. He had not been well for a few months and it was not clear what his heart problem was. The real problem escaped medical diagnosis. My husband was saved by emergency surgery in Melbourne. The surgeon told us he was incredibly unlucky to have the silent genetic killer heart problem he also told us that DJ was incredibly lucky to still be alive at age 52. This amazing young surgeon has given DJ 25 years so we feel very very lucky.
When DJ came home 9 days later, Rocky rallied and did not leave his side for the first 7 weeks and DJ could not do very much at all. Our beautiful boy constantly checked on DJ for weeks. He was tireless in his care of DJ.
Now we live without him around but he lives on in our hearts.
I plan to paint Rocky and put the art work on our wall. My hubby has asked me to.
We don't have children of our own but there are lots of children (and young grown ups now) in our lives and they have great memories of Rocky. He was always a big attraction for families to visit us!
So to sum up he was our family and best friend!
Many of the terrific WA folk wrote comments when I posted about Rocky last time to help me. These comments and suggestions helped. I thought you may like to know.
All the best in 2015

It is hard to lose our precious pets who are such a part of our lives and hearts! To be able to paint a portrait is special! I am so glad to hear that your husband was blessed with the miracle of the doctor catching the issue to his heart!
Many of us have lost pets like that and we can feel your pain. It always amazed me how in tune they are to us. They know when
we're sick or sad. I'm so sorry you're going through it.
Thank you Debbie. I suppose it just cannot be avoided. Rocky relied on us to look after him and he looked after us in so many ways.
Prayers to you. We lost our cat after 23 years the day before Thanksgiving. I feel your pain
Oh I understand. Time does heal all wounds. It does not take them away, just heals them so we can move on :)

You are in our thoughts and prayers! I empathize with the loss of Rocky. Will you be able to get a picture of your painting to post for us?
