8 Signs You're Giving Up On Your Website Too Early

To give up or to carry on with determination?

I bet some of you beginners (and long-timer) may come across such doubts sometimes. Especially when you're not getting any traction with traffic, conversion, and profit after months of trying.

Writing dozens of articles isn't easy. It takes a lot of research, effort, time, and fine-tuning before you get something up on the site.

But when you're months into building the website and the needle isn't moving, it's tempting to just quit on your website.

Sometimes, it's the right decision, but most of the time it's not.

Here are signs that you're quitting a website too early.

1. You got like 20 articles (or less) published on the site.

I can tell from experience that 20 is only a fraction of what you need to develop authority in the niche. You can't build trust with Google and readers if your site lacks content.

2. You haven't passed the 6 months mark.

While there are exceptions, most websites only start to rank after 6 months. That's because Google is quite cautious in ranking newer sites.

3. You're not publishing enough money-keyword articles.

Affiliate marketing is all about generating commissions from affiliate sales. Therefore, you need to publish enough 'best of' and review articles. These types of articles target users who are on the verge of purchasing. You just need to get the users to the vendor's website.

Tips: 'Best of" articles work for products while Review is ideal for digital services/products.

4. You're only targeting a single traffic source.

Google is huge, but it's subjected to the ups and downs of algorithm updates. Consider trying sources like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest. it never hurts to diversify your traffic source.

5. You're too afraid to monetize.

Most beginners are too afraid of inserting affiliate links or displaying ads on their sites. Does Google punish affiliate links? No, as long as you have high-quality content. Do ads always lead to disruptive user experience? No, if you use common sense when placing the ads.

Don't leave money on the table.

6. You're not asking enough questions.

Affiliate marketing is always evolving. There is always room for new knowledge. For example, if you've asked, you wouldn't be writing thousands of words for every article. It just shows that you lack an understanding of what Google SEO is all about. Sometimes, less is better.

7. You're limiting your learning to Wealthy Affiliate

There's no doubt that Wealthy Affiliate is arguably the best platform to learn affiliate marketing from scratch. Yet, you should keep an open mind and pursue knowledge from other sources. You'll never know when you'll stumble on a technique that brings you success.

P.S., Pave it forward by sharing those tips with the WA community.

8. You're ONLY promoting low-priced items.

You've got the traffic, and it converts. But you're staring at a dismal earning. If you're promoting only $9.99 products on your site, such a result is expected.

There are debates that you could make it up by increasing the number of visitors, but it's easier said than done.

I've experimented with 3 websites. It's easier to make money with low traffic/high priced products than high traffic/low priced products.

Bottom Line

Giving up is easy, but you'll learn very little from that. Give your website another chance. Remember why you started.

Cheers,
Kenny

I enjoyed reading your list, but wanted to just expand on one point.

If your site is only "best of" or review articles, you won't do well either. I think that readers who see only sales-oriented posts on a site don't trust the content. I expect to see general information about the topic as well, foundational info that will help me evaluate the quality of the review or recommendation based on my personal needs in regards to the niche.

You're right Jeannine.

My mistake during the first year of building the website is I'm having 90% of info articles and only 10% or less with affiliate links.

My motto is that any noun, especially a proper noun, can be an affiliate link. Perhaps you can incorporate some links into those 90% articles.

Awesome tips Kenny. A really interesting read. Thank you for sharing

Good stuff Kenny , a really good read, Phil

Great pep talk! It still feels like swimming upstream after years, though results still pop up.

Yes. There are new challenges every year.

I wrote down some of these tips, and will do a little more research.
Thanks,
Barbara
