Hi all,

I just wanted to give my 2 pence on the challenges I have faced with site building and ways to overcome them!

Having been with WA for just under a month, I have a few tips of my own. The training and community support has been absolutely amazing I have to say. In addition, though, it always helps when you have some one going through the process at the same time as you.

You may or may not have faced these issues - or like I like to call them - challenges that I converted to opportunities as I have learnt from them.

Google + page:

1) Try and customise your profile image as soon as you can as it makes it a lot more personable.

2) Ofcourse, ask people to follow you ( as mentioned in the training) and return the favour.

3) Communities and Collections:

I had a real issue with this as it defaults to - create a new page. There is no way to remove it - (trust me I have tried) so I just set up a collections page related to my niche and added my blogs in it. I also started following some communities related to my niche to stop it looking blank - which let's be honest does not look very attractive.

General tips:

1) If you have been through the first 2 of the 5 sets of training, you will have set up a theme and basically set up a website. However, so far your landing page may only have text - not have a background or the theme presentation is not what you want - I struggled with this and eventually figured out that if you want your theme to be background on the home page before text appears and just headers on the other pages. You can go back to your Dashboard<Appearance<Themes and change it there to present the way you want. The themes look the same but are very different in how they appear on your website.

I am now in the process of adding links to my websites. Few issues here as the one on Amazon gives graphic images and advised to copy the HTML link on the website. However, this does not work. So I have contacted Amazon about this and will let you know when I find a solution.

Hope you have learnt from these tips on site building/editing for newbies which I wish I had known to avoid spending a lot of time on this. However, I know now.

All the best in site building!

I am back again with the Amazon link issue as promised. When you go in Amazon Associates and ask for a link, it defaults to HTML - you need to change this to "link" and copy that as opposed to HTML as only the link will work on your website. This is not shown on the training as the it seems Amazon have updated their affiliate set up since.

You are doing pretty well. If you feel stuck in anyway just write a question on classroom or live chat and you will get assistance. To me that saves a lot of hustles.

A good and informative post.

Thank you!

That's good sharing Krupali.
Communities and collections are something new to me. Need to check it out later. Sounds interesting.

I believe you're talking about theme customization. Yes, that's how you do it.

For the Amazon image, I think you need to make sure you are in "text' mode and not in 'visual' mode when editing the post/page. Otherwise, the image will not be displayed.

Thank you for sharing.

Joe

Communities and collections strangely appears in some profiles and not others but an eye sore to look at if plain.

Thanks for the extra tips. Very informative.
