MONEY MONEY MONEY -- WHAT VALUE DOES IT HOLD FOR YOU? HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO YOU?

Reading so many blogs about money and of how to make more & more of it --

What do you make of it?

WHY TALK ABOUT MONEY?

Money matters are discussed through various media -- such as: news, television, movies, documentaries, banks, credit unions, co-operatives, on-line, kitchen table chats, laundry & washing machines, over the fence neighbour yaks, social circles, coffee meet-ups ... and it keeps continuing as an evergreen topic of conversation everywhere throughout the world. All to say there's ton of engagement on this topic.

One of the first questions we got asked about after we registered with Wealthy Affiliate was about our feelings of happiness & joyfulness on the varying amounts -- is your answer still the same as it was when you first entered it?

If it has changed, how has it changed?

WHAT IS MONEY - A DEFINITION:

Money is a tool or vehicle or medium of exchange which can be in the form of bank notes/bills, or coins.

Exchange is the key word here in defining what money represents.

The value of money is determined in the supply and demand of the marketplace. The currency marketplace is international in scope and the value of money fluctuates daily.

The value of a country's money relative to the value outside of its domestic market is called the exchange rate. The international exchange rate is currently pegged to the U.S. dollar.

For example, when one joined as a WA member, if you are from the U.S., the formula is simple as it is $1 for the same $1.

However, if you are from another country such as Canada, then, today's exchange rate is: $1 USD = $1.29CDN. Meaning it costs 29 cents more for Canadians to purchase the same good or service.

-- CONVERSATION WITH A FRIEND --

Some months ago, I had a most interesting & telling conversation about money with a most intelligent, highly-educated scholar & friend, Chanel (pseudo-name to protect her identity), who was on her way to London, England as she recently landed a new business 'job' in the financial services sector.

We had a lovely exchange about the value of money -- what we thought about it -- what we learned or adopted as values from our parents -- and what our take-aways were -- all to say that many words were used inter-changeably to represent essentially 'money.'

Chanel mentioned that her parents would use terms like: 'prosperity, wealth, abundance, riches' all to mean basically money!

I gave this some thought.

-- MONEY THOUGHTS --

What are your thoughts on money? ...

Did you know that money seems to prey upon peoples' minds in a myriad number of ways & facets-- most worry about money from the sounds of it and then, invariably, it goes in a downward spiral ...

Did you also know that money is simply a 'thought creation' that seemingly everyone has bought into as an acceptable means of exchange for value.

-- MONEY AS HISTORY --

There are money museums around that hold monumental treasure symbols of how money came about in its baby beginnings and its evolution through time.

I recall visiting a fascinating money museum a long, long time ago -- last century as a matter of fact. In the display cases, the very first medium of exchange came in the form of shells. Shells were revered at one time eons ago. My thought then was -- uhm, beautiful, however, impractical to carry so many around!

Highly educational -- recommend you might want to check out your local money museum to see some replicas of days of old and give yourself a gift of travel to go & visit one for a day's outing of fun.

There are many fascinating, eye-popping money museums situated around the world.

Numismatic is a technical term to describe the study of coins, paper money and such related objects... and there are many collectors who are interested in this field. New hobby anyone?

For some unknown reason, just the word 'money' when uttered or even thought about brings forth all kinds of emotive reactions -- drooling apparently is one physical reaction to seeing a lot of money!

-- MONEY TODAY --

In terms of money today, has it changed much since the yesteryears of shells as exchange? ...

Well, yes and no.

Money is actually neutral in of itself.

The form has changed, in the sense, that it has become 'cash' in representation meaning money comes in the form of bank notes & coinage.

This period of money has lasted for a very, very long time.

It appears that money is becoming more and more 'virtual.'money.' Bank notes once made of linen paper is now made of a synthetic polymer or seemingly 'plastic.'money.' The running joke here is that -- yes, we're paying in real cash but it's plastic!

-- A BRIEF WORD ON CREDIT CARDS --

Credit cards are a modern invention of convenience. They are made of plastic. Now there are microchips embedded in them loaded with data.

Credit cards are small bits of plastic generally issued by any of a number of banks as a means of borrowing in making purchases. It is best to pay off the balance within the prescribed period as the interest payments are very high.

Credit cards are not money. Remember they are instruments of borrowing.

NEW CURRENCY?

We, now, also have something called ''cryptocurrencies" representing money or does it?

With well over 1600+ digital currencies in play at this time and apparently growing -- it may be useful to have at least a cursory know about it.
