Web hosting can be a #%&*

Man oh man have I had a rough few weeks building up my first big site which is a gift idea site and I have put a ton of work into it! I Kinda built it backwards by setting up all my shop categories with over 2000 products and all that was left to do was set up my blog front page and start blogging - YAY!!

Now this is where things went sour..., I was doing some seo work and noticed that my site name was showing up twice Ex: "name|websitewebsite" in the search so I tried to fix this what seemed to be not that big of a deal then I went back to my site just to discover that my site was broken! Nothing but a short series of code so I tried to restore my site for 3 days with no solution I contacted my hosting provider and well it took 3 more days for them to get it up again only to find out that my site takes over 20 minutes to load so I thought ill give it some time and went to bed. I got called into work for a double and I was not able to check out my site for another 2 days which I thought might be enough time for my site to be reconfigured in the server, But guess what? My site still takes about 20 minutes to load AND its all broken up again 0.o. This was about an hour ago for a site I wanted to be finished about 8- 9 days ago just in time for Christmas! I'm starting to realize what my first mistake was....., I'm hosted with GoDaddy..... All I want for Christmas is a server lol

UPDATE: I finally have site up and running again thanks to a good friend from EA game's! Managed to get it restored, I lost 7 days of work which is fine and I will have to redo some categories mobile display functions and such, But over all he made it blazing fast!

I still do have an issue with the site name showing twice in search and I will have my blog set up soon after some Photoshop work, But all is well now!

Hi Darryl
I notice that you're a 'Premium' member, so that makes me wonder just why you're paying for GoDaddy to host your site for you? If I may, I'd like to remind you that, as a premium member at W A, you can have them host as many sites as you can handle on their server; and, you would have a 24/7 great and responsive team to look after the upkeep of you site: just a thought. Live long and Prosper!

I do have a few sites hosted here on WA and I first started creating this site here, But found that I am able to keep all my amazon items up to date automatically by adding cron jobs which I was not able to do through WA due to the fact that I have no access to a cpanel or php files. My niche is gift ideas so I need quite a lot of items for people to browse through. At the moment its is just a rough copy and I am currently working on a front page to be a blog as well as social network for people to join and share holiday experiences, special occasions etc. WA is great, But I only use it for single item niche sites.

Gotcha!

great to hear that. Come to think of it, sometimes we do have hiccups. But what matter most is that we overcome it. Anyway glad you finally found a solution and do have a great day.

Hosting here is free with premium membership with great support staff

Shared hosting is cheap and great when things are going well. But once you've experienced some problems or had the site go down for not apparent reason, you'll learn that it's better to pay for managed hosting or similar. It's not so bad on a new site but if you site is established and it then goes off line for any length of time, it will cost you a lot of money and sleepless nights. Let someone else deal with the problems and fix them on your behalf. Much less stressful :-)
