Monetize or Monopolize?

Hello everyone and straight away thanks for checking out my most recent blog! With all that I have learned lately my mind has been on overdrive. For the most part this is a beautiful thing, due to the amount of work that I have been able to accomplish in a short amount of time. I am so grateful for the help that I have received from the WA community and our fearless leaders as well. Without that I would just be spinning my wheels like I think so many people do without the proper guidance.

So on to the actual topic that is stirring around in the ole cranium. Since getting my new website up and running, functioning and ranked to some extent I came to a revelation. If I can monetize a niche within a niche, then why not monopolize the said niche and the monetizing could be automatic! At this point I realize that I have actually learned something here. Point being that no matter what your niche is, you can monopolize it to a certain extent. I believe this can be done by branding your self or product as your own whether or not it is singular. For instance, there are tons of brands and styles of surf clothing available today. But not many have branded them selves such as Bob Hurley, founder of Hurley, a name which I'm sure many have seen or heard of. The brand has shot to massive popularity largely in part, due to the branding that went on behind the scenes for many years before the label was so popular. Now I'm not saying go out and start a clothing label because frankly it seems to not really be a good venture in my eyes.

What I'm getting at is that with a little effort in the area of building value that surrounds your entrepreneurial endeavors, you can build a brand that garners massive value before ever making a dime. Remember folks, VALUE is why people buy anything. They want to get from one place to another essentially, in the sense of what are they getting besides the actual product or service? Clout with friends and colleagues, self importance, maintenance of status quo, acceptance, bragging rights, so on and so forth. So if your product funnel begins with the value that has been built through trust, good information, and just a general helpful perspective in whatever niche it is that you decide on. Then I can say without doubt that you will be in a position to corner your niche in a way that competitors will be most likely overlooking.

Now you may be thinking that, hmmm monopolize. Sounds ok and suddenly you imagine large bulbous characters with expensive top hats and canes running a muck all over wall street. This is not what I mean. There is always going to be competition with any given thing, but if your brand stands out due to the value that has been accrued then you are the authority and have authority in your niche which leads to the monopolization of your given niche through value. Another example would be Kyle and Carson with WA. They create massive value within a niche that is overflowing with competition, yet they truly are heading towards a monopoly of sorts due to that value. Just look around the WA discussion boards and the proof is all there in black and white.

So for me this is what I'm aiming for, massive value through legitimate content structuring that produces a brand that has the authority (monopoly). I know it's possible because I see it everywhere I turn. Others have either figured this out, or have someone behind the scenes who has, which is a completely different topic all together.

So there you have it folks my take on whether to monetize or monopolize. First we monopolize and the monetizing is automatic.

Thanks for reading and please leave a comment on what you think of my latest blog. Take care.

Thanks for reading Lab- I appreciate your feedback. Yeah monopolizing an entire niche is a bit of an over zealous idea. I am referring more to creating value through the authority that one can develop with relevant content. This can lead to a monopoly of sorts within your niche due to the authority that has been accrued. Just a ton of brainstorming going on :). I'm excited that someone gave this a read. Thanks again and take care.

A very astute observation. You don't really have to monopolize the entire niche. Creating a brand that has recognizable characteristics and jibes with the audience that you're trying to attract will do the job quite well. The Internet is huge, you only need to impact a small piece.
