Hi WA!
I published an article on the 18th and it is not indexed… yet. Any ideas why this might be?
Thank you for your time and help!
Kristina
That seems to be the case, Yvonne. One things for sure I keep learning with these hiccups that occur. 🙂
Hey Kristina,
Chances are, Google has indexed your post. However, to determine that you can Google search the following:
site:[add-your-domain-name-here]
Then, if you do not see it listed in the pages of search results that you will be offered... then you can say it is definitely not indexed.
Hope you find this helpful.
have you told google about it
are there links (internal and extrernal ) in the post.
is it marked no index
is it in your sitemap
have you requested feedback or comments on it from here
i tend to find that after submitting the site map and using the url inspection for each post it will be indexed within 24 hours...
have you checked google with the
site:[yourdomain] to see if it is there
good luck
phil
Thanks for your help. I have googled but it’s not online yet. I used my article url to search and it went to my site but showed “oops not found”. I’ll look in to your recs.
if it says oops not found then it is not on your site..
you need to sort this out before google can find it...
going directly to your site url should find it ..
so check in your back office and make sure there is nothing strange going on there..
make sure it is published...goto posts and click on quick edit and see that it says published..
it may be to be published on a schedule...
once you can find it by going to your url directly then google will find it...
good luck
Hi
You can always request indexing, but I'd give it more time. Have you submitted a sitemap? Using the New Google Search Console HOW to use the new URL Inspection Tool on Google Console
Thank you! That’s my next task. I was advised to clear my browser and that seemed to do the trick. I searched on Google for the article in question and I could easily find it there. This must mean it has been indexed. Yes?

Hi good people of WA! I published an article yesterday to my site and noticed that it does not show on my Home page first. I cleared the cache in my site manager but no change.
Kristina, I learned a few things from your post! You are right! This is how we all learn!
Jeff
Yes, indeed, Kristina! Things are OK with me--that's it! I hope you are doing well too!
Jeff
Doing well too, Jeff! Not able to get to as much of my WA lately as I would like. I am choosing to trust in divine timing.
Kristina
Hey Kristina,
Sounds like you may have setup your website to display the oldest post first. If so, here's how you can make the adjustment to newest first: https://wordpress.com/support/show-your-posts-in-chronological-order/
Or... you may have used a plugin to do this. Example: Post Types Order by Nsp Code. See screen print below...
If you used a plugin, simply deactivating and deleting that plugin may resolve your issue.
Hope you find this helpful.
how do i find the wordpress site page you show? i am using the WA site manager and i don't see the settings you show
The screen print is the plugin's image. If you search for the plugin I mentioned initially, you will see that as their graphic. I provided a screen print of their graphic so you would know the EXACT plugin that I was referring to.
Sorry if this cause you confusion. That was not my intention.
the order of your posts will be down to your theme ...
if you visit your site and press ctrl+f5 to refresh your browsers cache you will see what others see when visiting your site...
is the order of your posts definitely oldest first or is there a 'sticky' post ( you can check this by going to hte post menu and clicking on quick edit and check whether the sticky box is ticked)
i hope you manage to find it
phil
you can go through your theme options by clicking on appearance>>customize and seeing if there is a post order option in there...
or jump on google and search for your theme and look through hte documentation...
looks like the site is set for latest posts to show first. i'll look deeper. it will help me learn. :)
thank you
