Very Unmotivated

I've now been blogging on my site for 6 months - today marks the 6 month rank. I've received emails that my articles were ranked in Google, but going into Jaaxy, they're not now. I used Uber Suggest, and not a SINGLE one of my articles has been ranked.

Now, my site is saying it's running slow. Everywhere I turn, people say use images, but the images are what are slowing my site down and now I'm being informed that having a slow site will deter people from looking at my articles.

I'm beyond frustrated that I've been putting in work, every single day on this site only to now know that none of my articles have been ranked, Google barely even notices me - what am I supposed to do? After 6 months, you'd think one of them would be good enough to be somewhere on Google.

Today, I feel like crying.

Whatever happens Katrina, just don't give up. Just look at what you are doing wrong and work to improve on it. That is the basic description of life. If it's images slowing the site, scale down on them. If it is your digressing too much on your niche, narrow down to what you want google to rank you as an authority on. Don't write article after article trying to write everything about pets in one website. Rather, identify SOMETHING about pets and write EVERYTHING about that something. Only right abit of that everything in each article after article.
Wish you all the success.
Much regards
Billy

That's just it, originally I was writing about clothing, but I enjoy writing about pets in general, not just the clothes they wear.

Now I'm at a crossroads and debating on moving articles to a new domain I just bought so that my articles can be slightly more broadened, rather than just pet apparel.

As for images, I finally started scaling them down so they don't overload my pages. Screen shots and photos seem to take the most to load.

Thanks for the feedback!

Katrina

You are welcome. That is every online marketer's secret wish. To have out there in the web, an article about each and everything they love or want. It would mean more sales and traffic. But that is unsustainable and therefore largely remains just that, a wish.
It would be nice to have many websites going, each dedicated to something about pets. But you are one person you can't do that. Your site will not be ranked if it does not show consistency. That is simple machine algorithm and metrics thumb rule. That is the other name for what is being called website authority in here. Your articles may all be sweet, lovely and engaging. That will earn you website visitor royalty, staying power and possibly bookmarking and return.
But machines can not recognize these emotions. They recognize pattern in consistent repeated action. And search machines drive visitor traffic to your site so they can consume, enjoy and use your content.
So balance both in your website.
Do have a successful decision making.

Thanks Billy. I think I know what to do. I know that if I keep writing about pets in general on the one site, Katrinaspetapparel, I'll probably never rank in Google because it's too broad of a spectrum. I'll stick with clothing with that site and use my other site to write about my Bully breed which is my main inspiration day to day anyways.
Since I can write my articles in about 30 minutes, I have time for both and whichever is more successful will be the one I run with.

I appreciate the advice!! Thank you!

You are welcome Katrina. I think that is a good direction you will take. Though its advisable to develope one website. The work is daunting. But if you are up to the task dear, go for it!

Thanks Billy! Would you be willing to check out my new site and let me know your thoughts? I wrote an article for each website this morning, not too bad. Only took like 2 hours I think overall.
I'm going to shift the articles that are more catered to my Bully breed to https://akhurricanebullies.com/ and the apparel for pets on my Pet Apparel site. I think that the work will be time consuming, but overall good for business in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks Billy!!

Hi Katrina, thank you for sharing your experience. I'm afraid I'm not commenting from a position of having solved the problem you're having, but from a position of experiencing similar. However, hopefully, this may help... What I have decided is that I need to go really low, at least under 30, with QSR and check the competition (search analysis) thoroughly. I just had a quick look at your (gorgeous) site and the post I happened to check had a higher QSR. I'm back to stage one of planning site structure and keywords as I've not done it right in the past. I'm hoping being really narrow in a niche to start with will help me get ranked then build from there. I'm not sure if this helps at all but it sounds like you are very determined which is half the battle I think. The answers are out there, we just need to keep asking the right questions :)

Hi Emma, thanks for looking at my site. I do love it and have worked very hard at it. I know that it will get more views in the future, but today was a hard day I suppose.
I've started trying to target keywords where my competition is under 30 since higher than that, it will take a very long time to get anywhere near page 1 or even 2 of Google.

I also think that because I've broadened what I write about, I'm competing with more people now. I started with just apparel, but i found it was very hard to keep motivated to write about just the clothing aspect of pets, especially since I often write about things that I've personally experienced with my dogs and my friends ask what I did to remedy concerns.

I'm actually debating on changing the name of my site to match a YouTube Channel I just created.....AK Hurricane Bullies and from there, I can write about everything Bullies need day to day. I could still write about common concerns, but keep the tags and headings more narrowly focused to that particular breed.....

I understand your frustration. If you chose a highly competitive niche, it might take a while to get noticed. You might want to narrow down your focus, and ensure that your articles are between 1500 and 3000 words. Everything should well structured, with internal backlinks. I assume you have a site map, etc. Make sure you check Google Search Console - the speed, links and indexing. I hope this helps,
Nellya

A lot of people do write about pets I've noticed. I went incognito and searched every key word that I've written about and there are pages and pages of articles - of course, none of them mine. :(
Thanks for the advice, I'm trying to keep my head up!

Hi - the emails only notify you that your posts have been indexed, that they are in Googles search engine. It doesn't mean they have been ranked. It can take 6 months for a post to be ranked.

Your site is somewhat confused, although you have obviously put a lot of work into it. The name of it implies it is about pet clothing and your "about me" page confirms this.

However, your posts cover everything from accessories to furniture to training to illnesses to supplements, cats and dogs etc.

I presume you started by following the most basic rule here, by having a narrow niche but have moved well away from that now. You are not showing Google that you are an authority in a particular subject, so Google won't know how to rank your posts.

That was the problem with buying a domain. I chose Pet Apparel since that was the first thing I wanted to write about, but I write more about pets in general. Should I buy a different domain and move everything? I don't want to keep writing and posting for nothing and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The domain name is not that important, I just wanted to point out that you seem to have moved away from your original idea. So, moving to a new domain wouldn't really make any difference.

Pets in general is not really a niche, it is simply just a huge topic. And in a competitive field, you need to be the "go-to" girl for a particular aspect of it.

If I visit your site to read about a dog health problem, I don't want the next post to be about cats, I would soon leave. Scale back on your impulse to write about anything and everything. Be the one-stop website on a specific subject.

Leave your current posts as they are, but moving forward, start writing on a pet subject you are comfortable can give you lots of ideas, but stay within a narrower niche.

hang in there. keep trying

Thank you!!
