Amazon affiliate - 6 months is almost up and no sales. Anyone buying off Amazon anytime soon?

Hey WA!

My 6 months with the Amazon associate affiliate programme is almost up and I've had no sales as yet, I know it's an issue faced by many here at WA. I was way too keen at the start and signed up to Amazon far too early, before I had any traffic at all. If I could go back in time I wouldn't sign up until I had some traffic to my website. Back in September I remember thinking "This will be easy, I would have had loads of sales by March next year". I completely underestimated how much work it would take to get the ball rolling. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! My aim was to write two articles a week, which I did for the first couple of months. But the various lockdowns we had in the UK made it difficult to find time for writing so my articles dropped to just two a month, not enough to go up the rankings on google.

Anyway, back on to Amazon. I've got about two weeks to go and I'm trying to avoid having to apply again and changing all the links on my website.

So, I wondered if anyone was planning on buying anything from Amazon UK or US that could go through my website first so I can get the qualifying sales? I can of course re pay the favour as I buy stuff off Amazon (UK) all the time. I've actually used them multiple times in the last week!

Not sure if this is the done thing within the WA community so let me know if it is not. I know it's cheating and not how the affiliate programmes are supposed to work but hey if you don't ask you don't get!

Thanks

Katie

Thanks guys, really appreciate your replies.

I don’t want to break any rules so I’ll do as much as I can with getting traffic to my site and re apply at some point.

Thanks again
Katie

This is totally normal and nothing to really worry about. It's all about learning and understanding the simplicity of an affiliate partnership that probably sounds way more complicated at the start. Now that you know it's all about traffic, it's all about creating content. When your 6 months is up, don't worry, just re-apply. In the meantime, as you build traffic you can partner with other affiliate programs as well. It's all part of the learning curve. No worries!

What I am planning on doing is a HUGE sales campaign on social media... I am going to provide a 15 minute online stand-up comedy set to the first 1000 buyers from my site. All they will have to do is email me to provide me the sales confirmation # for their purchase, and I will put on one Heaven of a show for all in tow!

I like the idea, but again, this goes against the T&C’s of Amazon, as you are not allowed to “encourage” visitors to purchase from your link. I know it sounds strange, but you can’t offer an incentive for them to use your link, you can’t even say it won’t cost you a penny more if you purchase via my link.

Sorry, that is against Amazons terms and conditions. You cannot offer an incentive. As I said in my response to your other comment, you will be banned.

Amazon have the strictest rules of any affiliate program.

Alrighty then

Well, that's not so bad after all. I get to be free from the chance of 'bombing' on stage... And success with an affiliate site becomes more challenging... Cheers to Bezos!!

Maybe I will get some other ideas as I continue on with my training. I am glad I accidentally ran it by some folks before I moved on with that. I was just about ready to write out my material!

Will it work if you buy your own product? ;)

1

Absolutely not. Not only will you not get any commission, but you could also be banned from their program.

Hey Katie, I completely understand where you are coming from, unfortunately though, we’re not allowed to self-promote on WA, and it also goes against the T&C’s of Amazon.
