The fortune is in the cookie

Since a few restaurants have reopened in my neck of the woods, I decided I wanted to go out for a nice Chinese dinner. At the end of the meal, as is typical, I was served a fortune cookie.

I don't give much credence to the fortunes in those cookies, but this one was pretty cool. It's kind of hard to read, but what it says is, "You will be unusually successful in business."

Who wouldn't want to get a fortune like that?!?

But, fortune does not come from merely reading the message, but upon acting on it!

So here are a few ways that I can make this fortune come true. Some of these may be true for you, too!

1. Finish cleaning my desk work space!

Don't judge me! I couldn't even get to the desk for the past 9 months. My office became the junk room where everything was stored from food to laundry, to my desk ticked way back in the furthest corner!

Now I can at least sit at the desk and do some work. There are still too many distractions on it, but it is getting better. Yesterday I couldn't even see the top of it at all. Today I can put my laptop on the desktop.

I will post updates on the desk as it gets better (or worse).

2. Set aside time each day for doing MY WORK!

We all have different things that we give priority to. Sometimes, because I am still working at my day job, I have to give priority to that.

But when I talk about MY WORK, I am referring to the work that gives me fulfillment and joy, that of writing my blogs and my books!

I have to set time aside to do this. If you want to see success, you will likely need to do the same.

3. Take care of my physical health.

This might include starting or restarting a consistent exercise routine. It will most certainly include taking better care of my nutritional needs in regard to type 2 diabetes which I have been battling for the past 13 years.

There are a few things I can do that will greatly improve my health and they aren't that hard to do. The hardest part is actually deciding and then committing myself to do them.

I have a lot of ideas for this area of my life, but now I must dedicate myself to doing them.

4. Take care of my mental health.

There is no doubt that this pandemic has affected people physically, but it has also affected many people mentally, as well.

Those of you who deal with depression issues as I do, know that we have to be diligent in caring for our mental health as well as our physical health.

Some ways that I can do this include:

  • Meditation
  • Listening to music
  • Talking with friends
  • Doing things that I enjoy.
  • Take medication as prescribed and needed

There are many ways to care for our mental health. If you aren't sure about what to do, reach out for help

Making our businesses successful involves our entire selves (in my humble opinion). If you want to see the most success, put all of yourself into it but always remember to take care of yourself so that you CAN put yourself into your business fully!

Hope everyone is having a great week and will have a great weekend!

With thoughts of success,
Karin

The most enjoyable part of a Chinese dinner is the fortune cookie at the end. I, like you, do not know who makes them up, but they are usually a source of pleasant conversation. And maybe that is their whole reason for being.
Sometimes it is the smallest thing that will start us off on a new track, or lead us back to finish a project. It only takes the tiniest spark to start a fire that warms and energizes us.
And lets not talk about desks. Mine has a growth pattern all its own .I hesitate to disturb it.
And you are right, it takes our whole being to create success.

Thanks for your comments, Barbara! It is fun to discuss the fortunes. I actually saw a show once that showed how the fortunes were put into the cookies. How It's Made, I think. The fortunes themselves were written during the depression to help give people hope. (If I remember correctly). They were originally written by an American if I remember correctly.

Lucky you, or maybe not! Our lockdown has been extended to 5th March. I haven't been able to sit in my favourite coffee shop since Christmas Eve! But even you can do things,v you should think if you really need to, as better safe than sorry. There was a sort in news of man who had been staying in to protect himself and went out once to the supermarket and caught Covid while there. So stay in and not just save your own life, but the lives of others too. That's what a responsible society would do without needing a lockdown! Enjoy your day and stay safe.

What you have said is true. But this spread of the disease shows just how irresponsible our society is. In fact, anywhere I go, I see a lot of people without masks strutting around like proud roosters. They are endangering my life, too. I already had COVID in November of 2020 and it was awful. I am still suffering the after-effects. I don't go out very often. I am thankful that my job allows me to do most of my work from home. I hope that will continue for a long time.

Best wishes for a great 2021,

Unfortunately it does just show how self centered our society is. I spoke a manager in a shop before Christmas and he said they had a man on the door and when people came in and saw him they would pretend to put their hands in the hand sanitizer and then pretend to rub it into their hands and would then have to tell them it was a foot dispenser. When they offered masks to people they would just say they were exempt. I don't know who came up with the rule that people could be exempt as they should be wearing one of the plastic visors if they can't wear a mask. And thing is, it is the people with breathing difficulties that need to protect themselves even more. So the guy who came up with that one is probably responsible for countless unnecessarily deaths. There are neighbours and they are constantly on the go and having people over. Is it really lack of intelligence or not caring about their friends? It just amazes me.

Almost every successful journey starts with a plan. I am glad Karin that you are taking charge of what is required to make you a success. Wishing you the best.
Hugh
