My budding you-tuber

My granddaughter Jasmine is 7. My spouse and I have been raising her for over 6 and a half years now.

The other day I randomly asked Jasmine what she wants to be when she grows up.

"I want to be a you-tuber," she said with 100% complete sincerity.

I kind of laughed, but then I thought, what a great opportunity I had to teach her this business and maybe even help her make a little money, too.

Without hesitation, I asked her what her YouTube channel would be called.

"Jasmine's Amazing World," she said with theatrical flair.

She was so excited that I wasted no time to get on WA check to make sure her domain name was available and immediately purchased it!

She paid me back the $13.99 which I put in an envelope to keep for her as part of her business. (She doesn't know that I did that, she just thinks she paid me the money to pay for her website!) I am giving her the chance to make her money back if for some reason her you tube channel fails.

Some people might question why I made her pay for her own domain name in the first place.

The reason is simple, I want her to be invested from the very beginning that this is a fun way to do a business. But businesses cost money to start up even if it isn't very much.

We went about the task of filming her first video that night. We did several takes and retakes and angles to get everything just right. Now it is my job to edit the video and put it together.

I am also working on her website. She wants to do all kinds of videos and pix and reviews and ....

She's wearing me out!

Last night we had some "kids" visit us. That was a lot of fun. Now she wants to do a video for her channel with them!

One of my daughters is raising goats. She brought four kids to our house last night to visit. It was pretty cool.

We will be going out to my daughter's farm this coming week to film a couple of segments for Jasmine's YouTube channel!

The girl has a lot of ideas. Some outrageous, some doable!

She wants to do challenges and different things on her site. I'm going to try to help her narrow down her topics. Until we find what she really likes, though, I guess we will kind of run the gamut.

In the future, though, watch out for this girlβ€”she's going to be a force to reckon with!

Fantastic that she is fully engaged and I agree that investing her own money is the right thing to do, it teaches commitment. Even if you are just saving the money for her.
There is no fear at that age and if you believe, anything is possible.

Why can't we as adults believe like that?
I wish you both a happy and fun filled experience as she builds her channel.

Best wishes and stay safe.

Well, she still knows that unicorns believe in her! She has no fear and if she does, she addresses it in her videos and then, no more fear!

Thanks for the well-wishes, Gaz!

I think that is great, well done you for bringing the dream into some sort of reality, you never know she could be the next big third icon on You Tube, like that 7 year old mega millionaire who does toy reviews with his father...πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Right? She loves the Ryan toy review videos on YouTube. She also has a few other favorites. I told her we can try out those kinds of videos, too.

I just hope that she keeps her enthusiasm.

This is awesome! We should encourage our kids to become entrepreneurs.

"Conventional" wisdom is that kids should only have to choose from one of the standard careers that require a 4 to 8 year college degree and 6-figure debt loads.

Why not teach our kids how to make money online now?

They could have six figures in the bank before they even turn 18!

I have already had discussions with my kid about how you can choose to pursue a career, you can start your own brick-and-mortar business, or you can even make money online.

Making money online should NOT be a taboo subject. Who knows? It may help them weather the next pandemic or economic downturn. It may help them retire earlier in life. It may help them become financially independent at an earlier age.

Hopefully your daughter will soon become a "force to reckon with"! :)

We like to give her some space in her learning. She goes to a private school where they encourage creativity.

She really wants to do this and I am very excited to be a part of it for her. Of course, I have the feeling that I have to protect her , so I will have final say in the video productions, but I will certainly give her creative leeway and say as this will be her business that she will grow into and have more and more control over.

I am looking forward to work with her and watch her grow!

Wow that is truly wonderful. It is a truly wonderful feeling for a child to see her worth and that you really believe she can do anything she really wants. If she follows through by the time she is 18 she will be very successful. Best of luck to her ya. πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ˜

I do believe it, Francesca. She is a bright kid and I hope she can prove herself (with a little boost from me now and then!).
