Look What The Cat Dragged In

Look What The Cat Dragged In

A while back, I was making a lot of Sora videos with silly "dad" jokes as the theme of many of them. I was trying to find a "niche." I thought maybe these dad jokes would be it. I did get quite a few views on them and even made a few bucks on them, but it just wasn't me. I love to tell jokes, but sometimes we have to be more ourselves and let the humor or seriousness or whatever come in naturally.

I was doing a daily or nearly daily video called Pavement Ponderings. I would go on walks and do a video as I was walking. I talked about all kinds of topics, from health to my mom, who had passed away. The ones about my mom were some of her "famous" sayings. Sometimes the videos were less than a minute or two. Sometimes they would be 15 minutes or more. It all depended on what I "felt" while I was walking.

These videos had mixes of humor and seriousness and sometimes a little of both. Once, I even sang a Christmas song that I had grown up singing. It was a song by Benny Martin named Droopy Little Christmas Tree! I hope this link will take you to it. https://youtu.be/Js2sNX6NAm8?si=7FryoG4MV8idH7YA
It was one of those obscure records/artists that was on one of the Christmas records my dad sold at his service station. I think it was produced by Goodrich Tires or something! This was in the 60s/70s so we're going way back in time!

It was one of my most-watched videos!

The point of all of this is that if you keep trying things out, you can find your niche. You can find the thing that you like and that others like to watch or read. You can build your brand/niche by experimenting. I recommend experimenting with things that you enjoy, of course, because otherwise you probably won't keep at it.

Now that it is getting nicer out, I will be getting back into doing more of my walking videos, where I just take my viewers on a walk with me, and I just talk with them about whatever random topic comes to my mind.

One of my friends who watches my videos said I should be a little more practiced, so I don't talk in circles.... I am getting better at that. Having a point, that is! But when we go walking with our friends, do we always have a point? Probably not. My practice might work for a video and not so well for a website, but again, my point is that we get better with practice.

When we look at all the things "the cat dragged in," we are bound to find something interesting that works not just for us, but for our potential viewers/readers, too!

Keep trying because practice does make perfect!
