Lessons from The Matrix Part 8 [You are more than a battery]
Back to The Matrix! Remember, there are spoilers to the movie The Matrix, so please either watch the movie before reading these posts, or just read the posts and enjoy, but realize that there are subtle and not so subtle things about the movie in them.
Neo was a battery
At one point, actually at two points of the movie The Matrix, Neo, our protagonist, is referred to as a battery.
In the car when he is with Trinity, Apoc and Switch, Switch calls him "Coppertop." Later, when Morpheus is showing Neo what the Matrix really is, he holds up a battery to explain that the machines have reduced human life to nothing more than a battery.
We all use batteries. If you are reading this post, you are using a battery.
While we all use them, I would prefer not to be one. Neo had a hard time accepting the fact that prior to his salvation from the machine world, he was nothing more than a battery.
No longer a battery
Once Neo realized there was no way to go back into the Matrix, he started to accept his lot in life in the real world.
He began to see himself for who he really was and even though he was still learning, he was becoming his true self and was no longer living life as a mere battery.
Living life as a "battery" that powers someone or something else was no longer an option for Neo. The more he grew in the real world, the less and less he wanted to be in the Matrix and the more and more he wanted to destroy the machines that were behind the controls over the human mind.
We are not batteries, either
As Neo realized through painful revelations, and as we have to, as well, we are not batteries. We are not just here to give power to big corporations or other people.
I am not implying that we should live selfish lives and not help our employers or other people—no, to the contrary—we should help them. But we should not forget ourselves and our families.
We are writing blogs, doing research, doing what we can so that we can create a better day—a better life—for ourselves.
Keeping that in mind, I constantly remind myself that where I am right now is not the end of the line. There is more beyond what I see now—beyond what I am now. This is true for all of us.
Don't be a battery unless it is to power yourself up!
Lessons from The Matrix will continue tomorrow...
Until then, have a great day!
Best wishes,
Karin 😁
