Bigger changes

Every day is full of changesโ€”many of which we have no control over. But some changes we do have power over and of.

One of those changes for me is that I am moving from the state where I have lived 99.9% of my life.

After my mother died in 2021 there were a LOT of changes! Within a few months after her death, my dad had to move to a care center because his dementia went from bad to worse. It probably was already worse, but my mom stood in the fray and kept most of us from really knowing how bad it was. Without her, there was no hiding the fact that he "thought" he was eating, but wasn't, or bathing or any of the day-to-day activities of life.

About a year later, my spouse of 27 years, left me.

Talk about BIG changes.

And now, I have made a decision that will ultimately change everything!

First off, I will be moving from Minnesota to Indiana where I will be working closely with my business partner to explode our business!! We have made quite a bit of progress even being states apart, but working in the same room with the team is going to make a huge difference!

The second part is that I will be getting my passport and digital nomad Visa and we are planning to relocate to Portugal around the first part of 2026!!

Talk about BIG changes! LOL

I am hoping that for now, I will be able to work my job as an ad sales representative in a remote fashion, otherwise, I will be looking for a part-time job to sustain me until our businesses take off!!!

I am selling everything I own including my house, clothes, everything, except for a few items that I absolutely need. I will be moving by Greyhound bus, so can't take much! LOL

Once I am settled, I look forward to being a lot more focused and being able to share some of my insights and wisdom on here!

I hope you all have a great and productive day!!

Great to hear from you again Karin!!

That sounds like an absolutely fantastic plan to me!!

I quit everything and left the country of my birth over 20 years ago now (when I was 24)!

Experience life and different places, cultures is the way to go and if one can make a living out of it, then it's all gravy!!

All the very best my dear friend and please keep us up to date on how you get on ok !!!!! :-))

Thank you, Nick.... I am sure hoping I can make a living out of it. But if not, I will have my "day" job as my employer is letting me sell advertising from wherever I live!

That is really cool that you took a chance and made such a big change. I will assume that it has been the right choice for you.

I want to be like Henry David Thoreau's Walden which reads โ€œI went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...โ€

Good morning Karin,

I'm sorry that you have been going through so much, but it looks like you are turning over a new leaf, which is fantastic. I think life should be exciting and it sounds like you are making things happen.

It's interesting that you are getting a digital nomad visa, that sounds like great fun. I'm thinking of doing something similar, as I'm planning to go to Greece, from the UK. Exciting times.

I hope you will be able to document your journey on the platform.

Wishing you all the best.

Roy

Thanks Roy! I hope you are able to get your digital nomad Visa, as well.

I think traveling is going to be the way to go, at least for me. I have never really done it before. A trip to a neighboring city (5-10 miles away) has been the extent of my travels up until this past February when I took a flight from Minnesota to Florida for my business. That was the first time I had done something by myself in a long, long time! It was such a freeing feeling and the travel bug bit!

Best wishes!

Thank you, Karin, I appreciate that. I do know a few people who I believe can help me, which is great!

I think a lot of the trouble is that our governments want to get us into that nine till five trap, or for many people it's a lot longer than that. So many of us just go with the flow, but sometimes we need to step out and do something completely different, which it looks like you're doing Karin.

I understand where you're coming from, it's nice to have things, but sometimes I think these things can weigh us down without realising it. For many of us now, all we really need is a laptop and smartphone and of course an Internet connection! I have lots of books, but now I either buy a book on Kindle or Audible. I still have a lot of physical books, but it's so much easier having digital copies!

I hope everything goes well for you.

Well, if I have any luck figuring all of this out, I will offer advice as I am able. I think for the digital nomad visa you do have to prove a certain income level for like 3 months time is my understanding.

Ah, that 9 to 5 trap has been killing me. So many people are torn by the call of a good income and actually doing what they have felt called to do.

I love my physical books, too, but have been doing more Kindle books just because I can then carry my entire library in my pocket! I still really like my paperbacks, though!

I will only be bringing a physical book or two with me when I go, but all the rest I will carry in my pocket on my phone!

Have a great night, Roy!!! And best wishes to you, as well!

Good morning Karin,

I think this is a really good idea, Karin, it's always good to try and document a journey, I appreciate that's easier said than done at times. I think you're right about the digital visa, but I also believe you can have money in the bank. From what I understand, there are a few ways around the issue, but that probably depends on each country. I also have a few acquaintances in Greece, which helps.

I know what you're saying, I think it's right that we should enjoy our work and also have that life/work balance. None of us want to fall into that nine till five trap!

I'm glad that you enjoy books, reading is a great pastime and very therapeutic, I believe. I do like to see books on a shelf, I think it makes a room quite homely, but having them on my PC and phone, is so much easier. I also purchase books from Audible, they have a great, as depending on what I'm doing I can listen to them in the car or even when I'm working, especially when I had my off-line business.

I look forward to hearing more about your story, Karin.

Have a great day.

Roy

Yes, my dear, you are making some changes. Congratulations on finding that you are in control of what you do. Portugal is an interesting choice, and I'm sure you've given it a great deal of thought.

Interesting fodder for blogs will make up your everyday life. Share as much as you can, as we are praying for your success in this plan.

Yes, I was thinking I could maybe even start a travel blog or something like that and talk about the places I go while I am there and how to move overseas and the whole thing!

I should probably start one now with the whole moving and getting ready process.

Scared and nervous, but I am moving forward! Bought my bus ticket today! Moving in 11 days with little more than the clothes on my back and the Bible my parent's bought me when I went off to college!

Karin๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Best wishes, Karin, as you make the move to Indiana!

Thank you, Howard! I am so nervous and excited at the same time!!
