Why I Love To Write

I have an ongoing love affair with words. Ever since I was able to hold a pencil, I have been writing and I still love it just as much as I did when I was a child.

The fascination of seeing words come out of my head and appear on the page has never left me. Although these days, I'm typing on my laptop instead of using pen and paper. But it feels the same. Writing, for me, is fun, creative, exciting, magical and satisfying.

I used to read a lot when I was a child (and I still do) so I would get ideas for stories of my own and would put the book down, find a pen and some paper and start writing. My stories were usually about horses, or they were spooky tales filled with ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

My teachers told my mum that I had a very vivid and overactive imagination. I'm not sure whether they saw this as a good thing or a bad thing but it made no difference to me. I just carried on scribbling furiously until my hand was aching so much I couldn't write another word.

My friends would ask me to tell them a scary story and sit down on the ground, looking up at me expectantly. So I would sit down too, start talking then just make it up as I went along. My "vivid and overactive imagination" took over and once I started I couldn't stop. My friends would go home after this and be too scared to turn out the light at bedtime! I remember one of their mothers knocking on our door and asking my mum to stop me from telling ghost stories.

"My Kim's too scared to go to bed, she has to sleep with a light on now" complained Mrs P. My mum asked me to stop scaring my friends half to death, even though I tried to explain that they had begged me for a story. I don't think my mum believed me. But it was true! Honest.

The longest story that I ever wrote was 3,520 pages. It was about horses, featuring 2 girls who lived out in the countryside and had their own ponies. I suppose it was a sort of diary of their day to day lives, and a little fantasy that I could escape to when real life wasn't much fun. I would grab my trusty biro, open the page to where I'd left off, then start writing. It was almost like falling down a rabbit hole; the real world ceased to exist for me and I would only stop when my hand had a bad case of writer's cramp, or my mum called me to say that dinner was ready.

I would love to spend my days doing what I like best - writing. To be paid for it would be the icing on the cake. I know that now I've found Wealthy Affiliate that dream will come true.

I loved your expression about the love for writing, I too loved reading and writing, and talking as a child.
I would write a poem about any situation that made me upset, happy or creative...Words shaped my life and got me through many doors.

I am a Storyteller by nature and now by profession, but I used my gifts to help children gain confidence against bullying, prejudice, and self hate ,..I think I will finish this on my blog (LOL) ..We would make great friends.

Yes, we would have lots to discuss! I've never written poetry s perhaps you could give me some tips

You are an inspiration!

Wow, Karen, that's amazing!! Blogging is definitely your thing, haha.
For me, I loved art and could spend hours and hours doing all sorts of drawings, paintings, and any new craft that came along.
And you're right, to take the things in your head, and put them to paper is so relaxing.
I'm curious, what is your niche? Your articles must be very inspiring!!
And don't worry, keep writing and the money will come!!
Cheers,
Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne, I hope so! My niche is food and cooking, specifically teaching people how to cook but also providing inspiration to those who are in a culinary rut. I’ve written 53 posts so far and had a lot of fun in the process! I’m just finishing up on a new post about how to cook when you’re out camping, which needed a lot of research as I’m not a camper.

If you want to check out my website the URL is in my profile. I’d love to know what you think!

2

We do a lot of camping, but for the most part, that's my down time so I plan easy stuff, lol.
I looked at your website. You have some awesome articles there. Can i make a suggestion? The top few articles don't have their header image showing and it looks quite plain. May want to take a look at that.
Also, it would be really nice to add a static background image to give the homepage some colour as people scroll along. Or a header image?

Hi Suzanne, I do want to add a background or a header image for my home page but no idea how to go about it. The images do show up when you click on 'read more' but again I don't know how to make them show up in the snippets on the home page.

I'm glad you liked the articles though! My next one is about barbecuing, then to follow how to cook Chinese food. I make myself hungry that's the problem!

1

haha... yup, I love to eat too!
Here's a really helpful article for you about background images: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-a-background-image-in-wordpress/
This is a good site to bookmark. They're great for all things Wordpress!!
Cheers!

Thanks I will check it out!

Thanks Frank, it helps if you enjoy something, it usually turns out better than if you’re doing it because you have to!

2

Absolutely! Still, that’s very impressive, Karen.

Thanks Frank!

I'm with you on that one Karen, I also love writing. Jim

THAT is the passion you can share with the world. I love to write, but my stories always have to teach some positive lessons to hopefully change some of the crazy thinking surrounding us.

Hence the 3 books I have published. Not near as long as yours, bur readable and entertaining while teaching.

2

Good on you Warren, we need more people like you! Wealthy Affiliate has enabled me to combine my 2 passions - writing and food - so there’s no stopping me now!

2

Go girl!

I’m going!!
