I've bought a new domain - HealthyByTheInch.com. Right now it's pointing to a distributor replicated website from It Works Global. While the url is pointing there I cannot arrange

Hi Karen. If it is possible, which I am sure it will be. You should be able to keep your domain on the private site and host a free wordpress site on there as well.

If that is the case keep the DNS name servers as default pointing to your domain company.

That will certainly work. You can use the "Move" option on your "Build My Website" page to do that. It only takes a few minutes and transfers *everything* over to the new site.

Bob, super. What happens with the formatting to the template? Does it move with the template I've chosen? And then I can change it if I wish? Karen

When I transferred my site over, there was no difference at all between the siterubix version and the new site, All of my settings transferred over without a hitch. (Do remember, though, to change the site name contained in your privacy policy. That doesn't happen automatically.)

Once the transfer has been performed, any further changes that you make will be applied to the new site and you're free to do with it what you'd like.

You guys are great for checking. Seems there was some icky stuff downloaded to my computer from "Less2Pay". Spend the evening installing malware and running scans and eliminating crap from my computer.
The word on that Less2Pay stuff is that it gets sneaked in with installs of other things when you choose "recommended install". Got to be careful.
Thanks again you guys - karen

Same as CarlaIves, both look okay to me. Tim

Which site, Karen? I went to both of the ones on your profile page and I don't see any of that. Strange.

Why are ads and unrelated pics with links showing on site?

Is there any way to put categories in a specified order/ They just show, it seems, in whatever order I created them in.

Hope you have it all resolved now!

It is easy to create a custom menu.
Here is a tutorial explaining the concept.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/wordpress-menus-version-3-6-upgrade

Great tutorial and thanks. I've got the site set up so that under the main menu I've got my categories. So that when you pull the menu down you get all the posts related to that category. It doesn't seem to be redundant on the site.
I think that makes the most sense for my content.
Then the categories are on the right side.
I was hoping to have the categories in a pull down. Doesn't seem to work that way.
I saw on your tutorial site you're using Weaver II. I've got that installed but it seems too complicated for my limited wordpress knowledge.

That was what I was using back when I did this tutorial. Have moved to Elegant themes now(paid)

I'm willing to pay for themes. Will that give me the ability to change more things without learning how to code or does that give me the ability to code more?

If you log into your dashboard.
Under Appearance
Click Menus

When you create a menu, if not already made. You should be able to see "Pages, Links, and Categories".

When you select categories you will see those that you have.

Place a check mark next to all the categories you like to have in the menu, and select "add to menu".

On the right hand side, you should be able to re-order the categories the way you wish them to appear.

--

Hope this helps!

Damien, thanks. You are so kind to respond. i was using "hcategories" as a widget. Now I've got a custom menu in the widget area and the categories are organized as I wish.

Anyway you know how to make that a pull down? Fine if it won't but the widget thing worked as a pull-down.

I went to All in One SEO and looked at the sitmap stuff. I hit "update sitemap" then "view your sitemap" below are the messages I received. Anyone more knowledgeable than me (that

So, I deactivated the sitemap feature on All In One SEO and installed Google XML Sitemaps plugin. It looks like it generated a site map. It gives me a url to the sitemap and when I click the url it says "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below" and there is no document tree. BUT it seems to have notified the search engines I have a site map and if I look there's a whole but of code that has the names of my pages and posts in it.
How do I know if I have a site map or not?
I know I've been on sites and have used their sitemap to find something.
Thank you to those that suggested getting into some code stuff but I am so not touching any of that.
Bill67 - good idea about contacting support. I could do that if I knew what to tell them and it seems I'd be hopeless to implement any response they might provide.
Karen

Goto your "dashboard "and then goto "plugins" --on the "All in one SEO" goto "Visit Plugin Site" and then click on "support".
It may also be a conflict with your theme choice. Good luck hope you get it fixed

Had the same problem - here's my solution
... I use the plugin suggested by Kyle - All in One SEO.

Hope it helps!

your site map did not generate what are you using to generate it? you might try using this plug-in Sitemap Generator for Webmasters and try regenerating it, if that does not work contact website support

All in One SEO works pretty good - if there is an issue see below.

So far I've added a category to one of my pull down menus. I've got the post categorized and I've hit "add to menu" and I've indented the category under the main menu where I w

I see Maksim has some good info to you. Did you get it all worked out

Hey Bill. What I figured out is that the Childishly Simple theme just puts the navigation name of the category on the top of the page. So any post I categorize will be on a blogroll under that category but the category name will show at the top of the page.

I tried Pagelines theme. That theme does not do that but I can't figure out how to make the theme work.

So I guess I'll just keep it the way it is. I do hate how it looks though.

Thanks for your checking in.
Karen

Hi Karen, You can easy change display name for any item in meny by going to:
Appearance>Menu Then expand your category and Enter name you want to be displayed in "Navigation label" Field.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tnvmwk3ugk2yk7v/Menu Item name.PNG.
Make sure you save this menu and select this menu to be used

Maksim - thanks for that info and I believe I understand that part. I'm really interested in not having whatever display name I choose for the menu item NOT display on the top of the page once the page is opened.
Even though not finished it's published so if you went to www.MsMoneyByDesign.com and pulled down "Earn Money" menu you'd see the "work at home" category.

That is my work in progress WA review. At the top of the page it says "Work At Home". I'd like not to have those words appear there.
Karen

Karen can you tell me which theme are you using so I can install same and advise you

I'm using Childishly Simple

OK, So because you have category as a menu item, you will not be able to remove it easy way, there are no settings in your theme do it. When you will more Articles in this category you will see This category name on top and then row of blogs in this category. There are 2 ways yo ucan remove it:
1) If you plan to have just one article under this menu item consider adding just this article to the menu and you can set your self how it will look on menu as above instructions
2) I would not recomend you to mess with those files and changes probably will be lost when you will do theme update but if you really want it you can edit category.php by removing this part https://www.dropbox.com/s/oo1hzd3px3vv7jp/Category.PNG from it, JUST this part.

You are so wonderful Maksim. I really appreciate you're looking at this. I know I'm not editing any code

I was planning on having more than article in the menu item. I saw someone else's site that was using categories as menu items and I liked it.

I didn't want to put each post in that category as a pull down menu item by using the post title.

Do you think it's worth changing themes? Any thoughts on that Childishly Simple Theme. The site is still empty enough for it not to be such a big deal.
Again, thanks for all this, Karen

Changing theme more likely wont help you in situation you have now as this tittle will be pulled by default and im more or less sure no themes will allow easy edit it only by code.

If you want users to click on menu item and see row of blogs for particular category then you either have to be happy to see category title on top or edit the code.

If users to see just article when they click menu item then add each articles as a submenu item.

Hope that makes sense

Makes sense and thank you tons
