Hurricane Irma - WOW our first hurricane
We started a Hurricane Kit and plan for when we needed it. Never thought we would need it so soon, we only had the basics, batteries, flashlights, battery operated fan, cooler, and a few other items. There was so much we needed to get for our preparations but there was no time.
The National Hurricane Center projected that Hurricane Irma would be going up the east coast of Florida and would not have a direct hit on the Southwest. On Friday 9/8/17 all that changed. Hurricane Irma was projected to make land fall on the Southwest side and right at us.
Let's just say it was very scary to prepare for something so large as a CAT 5 Hurricane. It did down grade to a CAT 4 and then made landfall as a CAT 3, but we can surely tell you it was so scary.
It was the longest 2 weeks of our lives, between the 5 days of preparations, 2 days of Hurricane Irma winds, 3 days without electric, and 4 days of cleanup. We are happy to report that we are doing ok and did not have a lot of damage to our property. We are very blessed and lucky, thanks to all the prayers from family and friends.
So our advice would be make sure you are as prepared as you can be for an Hurricane because we can guarantee you this IT WILL happen again. Preparation is the key and make sure you are in the safest place you can think of.
No matter how small or large hurricanes are they will destroy properties. Make sure to help others in time of need because someday it may be you that will need to help.
We are going to create a blog on our website to share some of the things we have learned and some of the essential supplies we found to be very helpful.
Just wanted to share a little bit about our Hurricane Irma story :)

Hey Dennis I am very happy that you had no major problems with Irma. Your story reminds me of my first hurricane when I relocated from Texas to move to my wife's home state of Louisiana.
I had always jokingly asked my in-laws to have a hurricane party, anytime a tropical storm was being predicted. We live just outside Baton Rouge, about 45 minute drive North from New Orleans.
The day before Katrina was predicted to hit New Orleans, I had just finished building a backyard patio but the steel roof sheets were still sitting in our carport. My wife told me I had better do something with these sheets of steel because they could become flying shrapnel when the hurricane winds hit.
I hurriedly secured each sheet down to cover my new patio. The next day my wife asked me why I was smiling so big as Katrina finally made it to Baton Rouge. I told her, "It doesn't leak."
We have had three more since then and we have never experienced anything bad.
My we all be blessed the same in the future.
Ken
Glad you came through well
