What's Your Motivation?

This is my first blog post, not only on Wealthy Affiliate but anywhere on the web. It may be raw, unorganized, long, and illogical at times but hopefully real. I'm writing it as a reminder to myself more than anything, but hope you can take something away from it.

I haven't even been with Wealthy Affiliate for a week. I'm still on my starter membership (though I plan to upgrade to premium before the discount trial is up) and haven't even created my website yet (though I have decided on my niche). I'm amazed at the community that has been created here, and excited for what the future holds with WA and my website. But that excitement can quickly fade if I lose my motivation.

I thought about the idea for this post on my drive to my day job this morning. A half hour earlier I was waking my two month old son up and putting him in his car seat so my wife could take him to daycare. I hate this. My wife and I both work, so daycare is are only option right now. I wish I could have let him sleep and worked from home so he didn't have to go to daycare, at least not right then, not when he was sound asleep. My motivation for pursuing business opportunities outside the normal 9-5 really started when he was born. I want to be able to spend time with him on my wife and I's own terms, and not confined by work hours and day jobs. This is why I am so thankful I stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliate, because I believe they have the training and community to make this happen. While my motivation is there right now, the question I ask myself is if it will continue in the future?

My wife could tell you I have been very excited about multiple things in life and they have almost all been very short-lived. I think this is because I wasn't thinking about motivation correctly. I got it mixed up with the initial excitement of something new. To succeed, our motivation has to endure the wearing off of that initial excitement and persist until we meet our goals. I think it has to endure failures and slow progress. Motivation has to be long-term and not short-term, otherwise we'll never succeed. I've heard so many times, "If I could just get motivated this one time...". But if you are only motivated once, you'll never succeed, because you'll be excited by not really have the long-term goal in mind. Our motivation is more closely linked to our goals vs. the emotional excitement at the present time. I think this is where I have gone wrong in the past, but with the right tool (WA) and community (WA), I know my goals will be accomplished because my motivation is in the right place.

So I'm curious, what motivates you?

Thanks Paul! That means a lot and thanks for all the advice! I am glad I found Wealthy Affiliate as the community has been great because of people like you who are willing to help. I look forward to connecting with you in the future!

Hi JustinV, it's also hard to stay motivated when you work a 9-5 job and coming home tired when all you want to do is just spend time with your family. But, I finally quite my corporate job that I hated and decided to dedicate myself to internet marketing full time for one year. My year will be up next February but my goal is three more web sites for a total of 5 to start. Then, I'll begrudgingly go back to work until my websites begin making money. I figure within a year I should be able to quit if I keep going with the websites. For continued motivation, may I recommend two books. One is called "From Newbie to Millionaire" by Christine Clayfield and the other is "The Four Hour Work Week." The 4 Hour Work Week is a completely different perspective which gives you insight to a life you could have. The other is the theory and the how-to behind what we are actually doing on Wealthy Affiliates. I feel like WA gives us the road map and helps us takes steps every day. Also, Christine, has an actual calculation in the back of her book of how much websites can make per month that I feel is pretty realistic. It's my bible and WA is my road map! Best of luck to you and please don't give up. It's truly possible!

Thanks for the reply and advice Dwanna! I know your sites will succeed with WA's help so you don't have to go back to the corporate world. I would also recommend another book called "Quitter" by Jon Acuff. Funny, he mentions "The Four Hour Work Week" in his book.

JustinV, I will look into the book you have recommended! I'm always looking for good reads! Best to you!

Hello Justin, my main motivation is to get my message out in the world. I have a english and a dutch website with environmental and spiritual blogs for care takers. My motivation is, "Teach the children well, and we can change the world in one decade" It would be nice I accomplish an additional income from my sites, in the meanwhile five, two dutch and three English. I run a daycare for 3 boys outof the neighbourhood. They are all three attending school, so I have a lot of free time in between, and I truly love working on the computer. You can say, I love my two jobs to pieces:)

Oh and only your followers are getting an e-mail mention from your blogs, so I advice you to expand your public:)

Thanks for the advice! I will do that!

Love your motivation Loes!
