From Lawyer to Blogger - My Initial Faltering Steps as a Newbie Blogger

So, I am officially starting on the 4th chapter of my work life - after a decade plus as a lawyer and in-house counsel, then as an entrepreneur/business owner managing not for profits and events, then as a fitness (Pilates and rebounding) coach, and now as a blogger!
Yes, I used to write copious amounts as a lawyer, and then running my business. I am used to legal opinions, agreements, work-related email advice, marketing material for client EDMs and websites. But writing a blog is so different.
For a change, I am not writing about something that concerns someone else, but that concerns me! And blogging is not mutually exclusive from all the other aspects of my life. In fact, one of the best parts about blogging is that you can leverage on your experience in work and in life, as well as on your current journey.
After 20+ years of writing for work, I am just now learning to put my own voice on paper, writing about myself and the things I'm interested in sharing. This is a strange experience for a very private Asian woman.
It's not so much finding the right words that's a challenge for me. I'm still finding the right tone, the right angle, the right topics .... At the core, I sometimes struggle even with the basics of believing that anyone would be interested in what I write about?
Maybe I have only been at this for 2 weeks so building an online business centred on blogging is so new and strange, I wonder if I am even cut out for this?
Anyone out there faced/facing these same concerns or challenges? Do share ....

Hey thanks! Appreciate that. Writing blogs still takes effort but I’m working on it!

I for one would be interested in what you right about because I definitely enjoyed this post!!!!

Great Job. :)

You're cut out for this, June. You're going to be just fine. Just keep following the training and take it one day at a time. The same way you became a Lawyer. The same way as you became an Entrepreneur. The same way as you became a Pilates and Rebounding Coach. You've got this!

Thanks so much for the encouragement and support! I look forward to learning from you

I believe if you write from your heart June, you will flow with ideas and people will enjoy all you write about
Believe in You and keep on building
It really is worth it
Vicki

I’m learning more and more that just inspired writing and helping others is my motive with a constant overview of reading Experienced bloggers. I NEED to do this more it was so inspiring to read others writing and some I found quite humorous that I need to unravel in more! And I will!!!! Thanks for sharing and thank you to all who have responded here. I appreciate you all.

Sounds like you will not have to "fight fear" of creating content" like many of us do. Keep on with the training and keep writing, always remembering that you should "give" your site visitors something to help them solve a problem or issue they have. They will return then again and again.

Yes, "giving" something of value to visitors is something that the WA community stresses. From the amount of support and value I see here, I am definitely in the right place to learn about that! Thanks!

Hi June,

Give it some time. Everything gets better with time. You have undergone a huge change - from lawyer to blogger. Just stick with it and see how you do whether you are able to find your voice or not. Best of luck!

Much success to you!

Kind regards,
Nichola

I think it is still about the guests, and wonderful adventures with blogging. Yes, many will love to hear your thoughts, lessons, experiences. It is hard to be new at blogging, yet with persistence and patience, it pays off. Remember the most dynamic form of publication is blogging. It isn't all about money, but the value to the community.
There are many nurse bloggers, legal nurse consultant bloggers who become icons and grow exponentially that way. I have not heard of as many attorneys, so I think it will be a tremendous asset for you.
The audiences you can reach may may multiply quickly with offers to guest or ghost write, both romantic and fun in my opinion. And you could further your success easily. I look forward to reading more of your work already.
Thank you & kind regards,
Nurse Becca

Thanks so much for the encouragement. Yes, good reminder that it is all about the readers and offering something of value to them.

Thanks Alex!

Hi June, a bit of a sea change for you, it can be challenging when we start out on this blogging journey and the only way to find out if we like it or not is to just do it.

Finding our voice can take a little trial and error but with each piece of content, we can become more focused.

best wishes as you explore this opportunity.

Alex
