I am setting up a site with target audience of mums who want to work from home in mind. http://thebossmum.com/about-me-2 could you let me know what you think? Thanks
Am a cat lover. A few tweaks (re BIS note) and moving forward, you will have a very nice site. Am going to follow you. Look forward to your progress and hope to help when you need some.^_~2253/6/10
Thanks Caylynn. I have a dog, but love cats too! Will be tweaking away on Thursday, as that's one of my IM workdays. Not going to stress over it too much though as it's more important that I get on with other areas, like getting traffic and writing articles. So much to do, and learn. Great isn't it?! :-)
Your welcome, anytime. An 18 year old cat and a 3 year old dog - guess who is boss? lol. They are funny, and a nice break.
Sounds like you have your goals set nicely. This is a great place to learn and learn from one another. Keep moving forward, over time you will have created your site, will follow and applaud your success.
Wow!!!I guess you put yourself in the hot seat. ; O). I read all the comments and learned a lot. I will go to mine and check it against all what was said.
Thanks for taking the heat. Don't lose steam though....no punt intended LOL, YOU will get it done and it will help many moms that need to be home with their children.
God bless you
Kymee
Glad I could be of help Kymee! And thanks for the encouragement. I've got fire in my belly - to carry on the metaphor - to keep me going.

Hi Julia, I like you page, it's very real. I've had the same issue with writing so personally without the WIIFM aspect. Beverley is so good at giving good help. Good luck on your site, I'm looking forward to watching your progress. Jackie x
Thanks for the words of encouragement Jackie, especially the progress bit. That's what it's all about after all. I'm sure I'll get the hang of the WIIFM aspect in time. It just feels a little unnatural as yet :-)
Hi Julie. I like your theme but like @kpfingaz you have chosen the hardest combination for people to read - so I would change it now. Also not sure whether having a theme that reminds them of school room is a great idea!?
I like your about me page - but in my view there is something missing. When people come to a website their primary concern is WIIFM (What's In It For Me). So if I land on your about me page - although it's interesting to learn about why you set up the site - what's in it for me?. If I can't get that - it then feels like a vanity project or a hobby and I probably wouldn't come back again. At the moment I feel that element is missing.
Best wishes
Beverley
Thanks Beverley. I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your expertise. I will re-think and edit.
There really is so much to think about and learn. All good though!
Sorry Julie - I forgot this point before. Be consistent over your use of contractions. (eg I'm. I'll etc) . For the first 2 and a bit paragraphs you don't use them and then you do. Where you're not using them your writing doesn't flow as well.

Wow! Isn't it amazing what you miss. You're so right. I may be tweaking this for a little while. I'm also going to peruse a few more websites to see how other people are doing it. But for now, my other job will have to take priority. Thanks again Beverley. I may be in touch soon re: confidence coaching - maybe a taster to set out my about me page goals! ;-)
Good start with targeting a specific niche. About your site, you might want to reconsider the color scheme. I know the blackboard Wordpress theme might look like a good idea but really it isn't.
White text on a black background is really hard on the eyes. It's hard to keep focus on reading the text. That's why nearly everything you see nowadays is black text on a white background. Books, newspapers, magazines, big websites, the search engine results, your Kindle, Wealthy Affiliate, sales-letters - all use black text on a white background. And for good reason too.
Consider using another theme.
Thanks kpfingaz. I have already changed the theme a couple of times, and so one more won't hurt. I guess it was the teacher in me that liked the chalkboard theme, but even in the classroom that has become outdated and changed to the easier to read whiteboard - so definitely a good point made. :-)
Actually that's exactly what I had intended to do with the first section, but wasn't sure how to. I guess when I go back and change the theme I can also play about with that. Thanks a bunch for your feedback. It's very much appreciated.

Any comments on my about me page most welcome.

Hey there Julia, just got back from camping and could only pull ya' up on my smart phone but this looks great now. Black on white is great... very easy to read and allows the reader to concentrate on the content, which is written tight and compelling enough to hold ya' there. All in all, a nice platform to continue on!
