Practice Makes Perfect...Well, Maybe Not

When it comes to writing sitting down and putting something on the page everyday will make your writing better, not perfect, but better. My writing “career” has had a lot of ups and downs through the years.I did a lot of reading about it and trying to do the writing practices.I tried to do everything this successful writer said or that one. They all have good things to say and practical advice. But what it came down to is I had to start putting some words on a piece of paper.

A long time ago I was afraid to let people see my writing. If I thought of something that I felt inspired by I’d write it down and want to save it for when I would have a better use for it.Whenever that may be; I didn’t really have a clue about that.I read somewhere that always put your best out there, don’t try to “save” it thinking there may be a better time to share that bit of flowery writing. No, go ahead and use it when it comes to you.As you continue to write more, the words and thoughts will be there. When you write you might not even know what you are going to say until it starts coming out of the pen or off of the keyboard. We are all one of a kind.We come from different life styles and experiences so that’s where our writing comes from.

With all this said, I still have a little trouble with wondering what to write about at times.A quote I read said, “Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days.”Flannery O’Connor wrote this in the context of writing. It has stayed with me and makes me feel I don’t have to worry about not having anything to write about or maybe running out of things to say.I am happy to say I survived my childhood and loved every minute of it.Even so I admit I struggle.

My purpose in writing this was to put my thoughts out there and encouragement to anyone who may labor over and fight with the writing part of the web sites, you don’t have to.It will get better.I say this to myself too as I continue on with postings. We can’t be perfect writers, we are not a perfect people, only Jesus can make that claim, but we can be better.

By the way I have read a lot of good writing from other web sites and blogs from this community. That’s a good thing.Keep on writing.

Thanks for reading and like or make a comment.

Thank you Judy. Great post. )

Great Post!...Thanks for sharing

In basically everything, Practice makes perfect.
Thanks. . . .

I don't think Jesus did much writing! Lol!

Thanks for sharing all the best

Hi Judy, thank you for sharing your mind on that particular subject, which I can say I, too, have such an issue. I've been writing on my own old domain since 2000 and then I blogged in another one, mostly to rant and rave :) to share with my family and friends. Most told me that I should write a book. I don't know. I just don't have the confidence and when it's really time to write 'the' book, I get stuck.

Yes, keep on writing to you, to me and everyone. :)

Jenn

Hi Jenn,
I think you should write a book. I did. It's a historical fiction. Took me twenty years to finish it, but I got it done and published it myself.
Thanks for commenting on my post and keep writing.

Congratulations, Judy. What is the title of your book? I read a lot of historical romance and I kinda stop for a few years but I'm still reading them occasionally. I collected many of that genre too. :)
Thanks for the motivation. I shall do my best.
Jenn

Hi Jenn,
You asked the name of my book, it is Methow Valley Morning. Thank you.
