How Much Time Do You Spend Optimising Your Posts?
Hello all my friends in Wealthy Affiliate land! Greetings from the Jersey Shore, where the sky is blue, the sun is shining and the temps are climbing into the 70's!ππ Now this is what the middle of May should feel like. Too bad there is no place to go and nothing to do. So, it's only fitting that I turn my attention to Wealthy Affiliate and get some tasks completed.
So, How Much Time Do You Spending Optimizing Your Posts?
I used to be a big perfectionist. I spent way too much time trying to ensure everything is perfect. I wasn't taking it too far - but I just liked knowing that things are in the best shape possible.
This is something I also tried doing when I started working on my sites. I spent way too much trying to ensure my homepage is perfect, my posts are perfect, and that my whole site is perfect, and that even I don't forget anything I've learned.
However, there's one thing I've learned which changed my mindset.
The done task is far better than a perfectly done task. Why?
Because it will keep you moving forward at a better rate and you will get more done in less time - which also means you'll be more productive and spend less time doing "unproductive" things.
Writing Takes Time
Depending on your writing skills, typing speed, creativity, and productivity on a certain date - writing time is different for almost every member here.
I've got pretty efficient at writing. You have to understand that writing is a skill. And like any other skill - the more you practice it - the better you be able to do it.
Therefore, practice is one of the ways I was able to improve my writing productivity. But do you know what else helped?
Doing the topic & keyword research before writing, and even creating an outline before writing the post.
That's right - it's a flow I always follow. If I don't know what to write about - I do research and find more ideas.
If I am not sure from what angle to write about a certain topic - I brainstorm and write an outline I could follow.
So, when I start writing - I am basically filling in the blanks. And since we're all lucky here to create online businesses around our passion or knowledge - being able to write from experience or knowledge always helps me write faster.
This might look like a lot - but believe me, once you practice your writing skills and you set up yourself a nice writing routine - you won't dread writing.
But this is just writing - what about post-optimization?
Did you Know that Optimization Might Take as Much Time as Writing?
Personally, optimization might take as much time as writing a post. And I think that this is something that might happen to many members here as well. How come?
After writing a post, I need to proofread it, find & add images, optimize images, add internal & external links, add tags, re-check keyword density, optimize the URL, write a catchy title, write a meta description, and do a couple of other things.
It might seem like these tasks are very short and easy to do - but believe me, they take time. And no, it's not even taking so long because I am trying to ensure it is perfect.
But again, having a routine helps - and here's mine.
My Writing & Optimization Routine
As I've mentioned earlier - I start my writing this way:
- Keyword research
- Any additional research on the topic (mostly for facts and stats)
- Writing the outline for the article
- Writing the article
When I finish the post - I ensure it's well optimized for search engines, but also the actual people who will be reading my posts. It goes this way:
- Proofreading
- Finding images
- Adding images & optimizing them
- Adding links
- Adding tags
- Re-checking keyword placement
- Optimizing the URL
- Writing a catchy title
- Writing a meta description
- Re-checking everything
- Publishing
Things don't stop after publishing either. I share all of my posts on my social media accounts.
But do you know what's important to have? A correct mindset.
Everything we do is digitized. Everything we write can be edited. If you miss something, you can come back & re-check the article to find what you've missed and then easily add it.
You can always edit or improve posts. You can always change things. Digital ink doesn't dry.
So as long as you're moving forward, learning new things, and implementing them to your site - you're on the right track!
Wingman Chance is on Spring Break at the moment, but we both look forward to reading your comments

How much are you being rewarded monthly Barbara for all this work and effort if you donβt mind me asking?
Trevor
Trevor,
To be honest, I have made a few sales but nothing really to speak of. That is why I have been trying to change my mindset about my writing for my websites.
