Hey Friends

Today's blog, though separate, is a prelude of sorts to a series of Posts I've written for my Friends here at WA. The series itself is titled " Meeting The Shadow; An Honest Look At Success". I've put and will be putting a lot of work into it, with hopes that you enjoy :)

Though in the future each segment will be a weekly release, I will be posting Part One later on today.

To Our continued Success...

Meeting The Shadow; A Look At The Fear Of Success.

The Fear Of Success

"You can't lose your nerve for the big failure, because the nerve you need for the big success is the exact same nerve."

~Dr. Regina Dugan

Now you might be thinking to yourself, "why would I ever fear Success?"

Well the answer to this is both simple, and complex at the same time. This notion might seem totally out in left field, however, looking a little below the surface, one will find that fear of failure, and fear of success share a very subtle and fine line.

The fear of Success often manifests itself, and rears up due to self doubt. For instance the "what if" Programmed Negative Response or "PNR", such as; "what if I attain success, and I'm not prepared to handle it? What if I get there, and I'm not able, or what if I really don't know what I'm doing, and I'm biting off more than I can chew?

There are many more PNR's that we create, and that in turn maintain our fear of success. We all have a bag we carry on our backs, filled with tricks and semi conscious "reactions" , keeping us prisoners within the walls our own "Comfort Zone". These same PNR's hold us back from discovering our true nature, and reaching our full potential.

The "Comfort Zone"

The hardest challenge in personal growth, is letting go of parts of who we are, so as to keep moving forward into the vast unknown that is the "Self".

~JFC

Over time we settle, and become comfortable with the life we have created for ourselves, even though we dislike or may even loathe where we are at. We whine and complain about it, surround ourselves with others who do the same. We end up feeling a certain comfort while surrounded by those who also incessantly whine about it all, we officially become a member of the "Poor Me" gang. It can even go as far as finding a twisted sense of pleasure, while wading in this pool of negativity, which is oftentimes accompanied by the "finding fault" in someone else's success.

This "Comfort Zone" reinforces our PNR's, and in turn cements itself into our everyday semi conscious behavior. Indeed misery loves company.

Other times we have settled for "the crumbs that Life offers", rather than truly pursuing our dreams, whatever they may be. If by chance this somehow strikes a chord with you while reading, then take a few seconds and reflect, bring that semi conscious moment of awareness into the "Now", as you've just encountered your "Shadow", which can either be your best friend or worse foe.

Meeting "The Shadow"

"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious"

~CG Jung

So what, or rather who is this Shadow?

The Shadow is the you, and the me that resides between the shores of our conscious and subconscious mind. It is also in a way, the bridge that can allow us access to both these parcels of land. It's often a subtle manifestation of past mental programming, which has taken root deep within what is called the Primitive or Reactive Mind, and if not consciously acknowledged, can hinder our chances of true personal success.

Now I don't intend to go deeply into this subject, just an overview, as so when you experience it's presence, you can act on it, and if you wish, shift from being "in a reactive state" and increasingly operate as a fully conscious Being', and thus achieve your full potential.

Through understanding our subconscious "reactions" to certain things, as well as our resistance to new or different ideas that are foreign to us, we increase our possibility for success. And as we accept ourselves through getting past our fears, we also become more loving and open to others.

In short, it's important to remain aware of when these reactions happen, and attempt to push our boundaries beyond, rather than react for no logical reason, other than an "ingrained or conditioned" response to change.

Here at WA, for most part, we are a progressive group of individuals, many who strive to apply what we are learning to both our business and personal lives.

and that's the reason I Love it here :)

Very thought provoking Joseph. Change is somewhat scary to all of us but it does promote growth in many areas.

Blessings,
Debby

Very true Debbie, fear of the unknown is something we all gave to deal with to various degrees.
Thanks for your comment :)
Joseph

Very interesting when I was thinking about shadow I recalled the movie ink heart really it was saying we give life to the story and when we stop believing it dies.. got me thinking I think I perhaps I feel it would be wrong to have an excess of success, hope all is well your end and your having some sort of break

I know the movie very well Katie, great metaphor.

Joseph

I am then of course afraid to succeed. It will of course open some doors that have a completely unknown factor. That is what I see as the great thing about the internet here it does not happen from day to day

hey Steen, how have you been?
Great to hear from you, thanks for dropping in :)

Thank you, Joseph. I feel really good new job and a very long list of all the things I set out to achieve this year. So I have little interest on the sidelines for the most part

That's really great, glad to hear things are going well my Friend :)

Great post. Thank you Joseph :)

You're welcome Jud3, glad you enjoyed :)

Nice article. I totally have this PNR thing. I just realized it.
Thanks, it created a sort of an "aha" moment for me.
Cheers

Hi Jagulba, very nice to meet you.
We all do it, and there are certain techniques to "uninstal" these negative anchors as they are called.
I'll be talking more about it, in posts to come :)
Thanks for dropping in, I'm also following you now :)
Joseph

I would love to get rid of these feelings. So I will wait for the next post, Jozeph.
Cheers

Blessings Friend :)

Wonderful post! When we begin to understand why we react in certain ways, we can begin to move beyond our comfort zones and achieve our full potential.

I couldn't agree more Erica, it truly is an endless voyage.
Thank you for dropping in
Have a wonderful day :)
Joseph

This is a very deep post, Joseph.

I might have to search inside my heart and remove the PNR.

It surely is an endless quest for us all.
Great to hear from you Arief, and thanks for taking the time :)
Blessings

Great post Joseph!

I believe to become successful, in whatever you do, there is just no room for a "comfort zone".

Never mix with people who only exhibit negative attitudes, instead surround yourself with positive and successful people.

It will rub off and give you the added confidence to attempt things that you've never done before.

And with the right outlook you will achieve.

Looking forward to your next post. Ken.

Always a pleasure Ken, thanks so much for your wise words.
Hope you're having a Great week

Thanks, Joseph.
I enjoyed every word in this article, what you write is true and even if I know about what you are writing I have to fight with my fears now and then. It is so easy to get into that negative spiral and often you don´t notice it before you are there. But I think it is important to fight back and push some positive thoughts instaed to make the thought turn around. In the end, everyone has their battles to fight.

Don't we all Elma, an endless voyage filled with both growing pains and pleasures.
Thanks so much for taking the time
Blessings to You and Yours
Joseph

Bravo, Joseph. Seriously...awesome post. Your timing is a tad spooky however. :-) Just launched my rebuilt 'old' writing website a few hours ago. I was terrified to hit the 'move' button and migrate it over to WA. It's revamped with a new direction for me. Scared ****less, but like you so truthfully say, "the hardest challenge in personal growth, is letting go of parts of who we are, so as to keep moving forward into the vast unknown that is the "Self". Thanks for this post. The timing couldn't have been better my friend. Lovingly, Heather :-)

It was a pleasure to write, even more pleasure in knowing you enjoyed
Thanks Heather, have fun :)
Thanks Sis
