The Bahamas on my mind !

How many of us know what it is like to live on an island ? Paradise? Yes when the seas are calm and the sun is shining tourists from all over the world flock to the Bahamas.

Have you seen the photos of the devastation ? People had to abandon their homes and when they returned, there was hardly anything left. Some have lost relatives and friends and all their valuable possessions.

In most areas there is no water, no electricity, and they are running out of the food that they stored. Many people are still wearing the same clothes they had on when the hurricane struck. I have an idea what it might be like because I, too, live on an island (Jamaica), although larger , but many of our homes and buildings are made of concrete and steel.

This crisis has brought out the best in many neighboring countries. Armies have been sent in to help set up temporary housing structures and deliver food and water, and cruise ships in the area have diverted from their route to provide meals. The Red Cross, the Salvation Army, church groups and service clubs have come together to organize donations.

You might not have any family or other connection to the Bahamas, but every little bit adds up. How about getting online and finding a way to contribute to recovery !

My prayers are there for the Bahamas.

I visited the Bahamas earlier this year. I hate to think of the devastation this storm has caused th some beautiful islands and their inhabitants.

They are all in my prayers.

So sorry about the devastation there in the Bahamas,I know that the people are resilient and they will arise from this, also thanking all those who help in any and every where.

I went to Paradise Island in Nassau on my honeymoon with 70 friends and relatives back in 1993. Have been back maybe a dozen times for the golf and scuba diving. The Bahamians are warm, hospitable and fun-loving people. My heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by Dorian.

After 3 trips to Atlantis and Paradise Island (unscathed) and walking around Nassau, it hits home to me. Terrible devastation in nearby islands and communities. I love the Bahamian people.
