Has Facebook Just Announced the End of Facebook Ads As We Know Them?

Sounds like a bit of an exaggeration doesn't it, but read on!

I was reading an email from one of the top Facebook ads specialists in the world - Maxwell Finn.

He not only runns his own FB ads but also manages FB campaigns for multi million dollar companies, so he not only knows what he is talking about but he also has his ear to the ground.

Mark Zuckerberg came out yesterday and issued a long blog post about the future of Facebook. In it he highlighted how, because of the privacy problems they have had over the last year or so, Facebook will be moving from a feed focus to a 1 to 1 messenger focus. Basically he is looking to make Facebook a more private and secure platform.

He is looking to create a huge messaging platform across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.

Basically he sees Facebook moving towards something closer to what WhatsApp and Messenger are like - yuck!

Facebook is a public company so it will still need to give its shareholders something back! However, he feels that ads will not be the seem as they are now.

As a result all of us marketers who use Facebook ads will need to start looking at other places to advertise as well. That way, if it does all go south, we will have our eggs in other baskets!

So, Maxwell has come out and openly said that he is now actively looking at the likes of Pinterest, Native ads, Youtube and other platforms for his adverising going forward.

He made a video about it if you are interested

Interesting times!

I knew this when Facebook asked me to pay for ads on my business page. I tried it out but it was too expensive. Thanks:)

Say it's not so. My friends and I use facebook a lot. thanks for taking ye time to let us know about this.
Sandy

Oh no! I love Facebook the way it is.

Thanks for the update and good advice to start looking for other places to advertise. Thank you.

Bummer. I don't use Facebook a lot, but it has been a good place to have a couple of pages that link to my sites and to offer greater connection with my visitors. Does it seem like it will effect the whole platform from the games to the pages or will it mainly change the advertising and the ways to post updates?

Karin

From what I can tell, the news feed will cease to exist in its current format and therefore places to advertise will reduce.
Makes me wonder whether people will stay on FB afterwards?

Hi Jon thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up - really interesting.

This is really interesting! On one hand I look forward to seeing more private use of Facebook on a personal note, but on the other hand I’m not sure how the future will be with businesses and their marketing through them. I’m still working on getting really into Facebook on the marketing side, so I’ll see how it’s going to work after this change.

This is interesting as A friend of mine is a Civil Engineer. He is currently working on a project building a huge data centre in the Nordics. I am sorry to say I am not allowed to give the exact location but, it is for Facebook to store all images sent across the infrastructure.

If any body out there who posts, sends images thinks they disappear they are wrong. Every image you send on what overmans like Whats App is captured. So, the next time you send a picture anywhere think twice.

By the way this facility is massive it will be the size of a small town.

Very interesting

Shaking up marketing. Things are always changing and glad you gave us the heads up. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this news Jon. Becoming more "involved" with Facebook has been my to-do list for a while.

You have given me the freedom/encouragement to focus my social media time on anything but Facebook. It is sounding more risky for businesses to put too many of their "eggs" into Facebook advertising basket.
