What is the Real Meaning of Wealth?
With our focus now more than ever centered on ways and means of making a quick buck, it's the human relationships that are suffering.
A certain well meaning woman after she'd discovered spirituality now knew her world was complete. She became very dedicated to her cause and would not let anything or anyone come between her and the Divine. Not even her own family.
To her dismay her family life began to suffer as her relationship with her husband and their children began to falter.
"I just don't get it, she would complain, my family are being unreasonable, all this time I spend meditating I'm not doing it only for myself it's also to their benefit as any blessing that comes my way as a result of my dedication to the Divine will also trickle down to them."
After relaying her concerns to her Spiritual Guru she got a shock of her life. "Put your family first, she was told, don't let the relations with your loved ones breakdown, you don't want to be the loneliest most spiritual person in the world, because without human relationships you might find it very hard to stay happy and even to remain dedicated to the Divine."
In our search for financial freedom it is all too easy to sideline personal relationships for the want of a financial gain, now more so than ever. With the advent of the internet one does not even need to live the confines of their bedroom when their workstation is right next to their bed. Moreover you can get to chart to millions across the globe, celebrities included, just from the touch of a button.
Yes, some have made millions on the net, they have found ways to beat the recession. This is the dream of many.
Yes, having money sure is nice. Imagine not having to worry about how you're going to pay for your bills, or where your next meal is coming from.
Imagine not having to worry about your lovely car or beautiful house getting repossessed. Yes, I do agree that is freedom and we all aspire to that level of freedom. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.
In saying this I However have got news for you. Money is not the be all and end all of your miseries. It is not even the true meaning of wealth. There's more to life than just money.
First of all you should ask yourself, "do I have health? What's the use having all that money when you can't enjoy your riches because your ill-health is getting in the way? I'm talking both physical and mental well-being here.
As 'Robert Kennedy' encouraged us to do in his remarks made so long ago. "Genuine wealth is about getting in touch with all the things that make life worthwhile."
So what are the things that make life worthwhile for you? Are you investing in real wealth?
We should be able to align our values and principles with actual conditions of our well being (personal, professional, spiritual, environmental and of course financial.)
Genuine wealth should be defined in terms of the quality of our relationships with our partners, our children, our parents, our friends and our neighbors. We would see genuine wealth in the beauty of a sunset and the flutter of butterfly wings. We would measure wealth in terms of the joy of our play, the social cohesion of our neighborhood and the quality of our children's play.
Yes, having money sure is nice. But having genuinely true happiness is even nicer.
As we converge here in our search for financial freedom, let's not let our love for money get in the way of our HAPPINESS.
