Should You Outsource in Order to Grow Your Online Business?

In short, 'Hell yeah!'.

Except if you can't afford to outsource or you're hell-bent on establishing your own brand with, say, your own name and you have to use your unique voice. But that is for writing only. You can still benefit from outsourcing your graphics, web design, and other tasks.

I think outsourcing is the smart thing to do if you you want to scale your business and free up your most valuable and most uncompromising asset - YOUR TIME!

What Should You Outsource?

To begin with, you definitely should start by outsourcing your content. If you deplore writing, then that's a given. But even if you enjoy writing, you should outsource in order to pump out more content, along with your own writing.

More content equates to more shelf space with Google.

This will mean more opportunities to grow your traffic, which in turn will grow your authority, which in turn will cause your rankings to rise, leading to more traffic and more income.

That's the theory anyway. Sounds good to me.

How Do You Find Good Writers, VA's, Graphic Designers etc?

I'm afraid your going to have to do that research yourself. I have found some excellent people but what works for me, may not necessarily work for you.

You can try all the usual suspects such as Upwork, Fiverr, etc. and you will find good people but how long that will take is going to be dependent on your vetting process and budget.

It takes time.

You can try services such as "The Hoth", "Outreach Mama" and so on but that may be beyond your budget as they are not particularly cheap.

Anyway, the bottom line is that you'll need to do your due diligence.

When Should You Outsource?

For most people this will make sense when you are creating multiple websites and you are starting to see revenue.

That said, even with one website, this is still something you should consider in order to see results faster.

Whatever you decide to do, stay within your budget and never stop growing your business. If you give up, it'll all be for nothing.

I wish you good luck and success for 2020 and beyond!

This is great advice, Tim. This is true even for someone with one website. After you have developed some expertise in your niche, you'll soon find that you are developing a vision of how that material should be presented so it can be accessible to the greatest number of readers. Sometimes that might mean, for example, that you want unique visuals to go with your written content---well, you might not have time to do that yourself. It would be better to collaborate with someone who understands and can help you realize your vision.

I would caution , however, that collaboration works best once you have a solid idea of what you want and how to convey that to your potential collaborator. You want to provide a good experience for all concerned.

Hi Thabo,

Outsourcing is paying someone to do a service for you.

Collaboration is working together with someone on a project and is more of a partnership.

My post is about outsourcing, not collaboration.

Cheers,
John

I understand as I have studied outsourcing in Grad school as part of my Master program on business development. I have also outsourced myself. As a playwright and lyricist who has worked with composers and choreographers to stage theater productions, I also fully understand what collaboration is. The only point I was making is that when you use repeat people for your outsourcing, they do develop a sense of how you like to do things and can often offer suggestions when you get stuck. Ask any successful CEO and they'll tell you that is sometimes what happens.

That said, it's fine with me if you want to stick to the Strict definition of outsourcing. Okay, your post was strictly about outsourcing.

Thabo

That's right. Thanks for your input.

Perfect! Indeed the more great brains working on a common target, the better! And it surely takes time to find just the right folks. My strategy is try to wing it myself until I can afford to hire Virtual Assistants from my own income from my efforts here at WA.

But if you wish to spend your own money, great. And the best to everyone who is successful in outsourcing early on!

Joe

You should be investing or re-investing in your blog(s). This is a business, after all, so you need to treat it as such.

I think the sooner the better but it's going to be different for everyone.

Do what you think is best for yourself.

Outsourcing, here I come.

Once the business grows, outsourcing may be necessary to scale. Great information. Thanks.

Thanks for the great post. Will keep in mind.
All the best to you,
Mickey
