Happy Birthday (Belated) to My Site!

Wohoo!

Time is fast!

My site is just over 1-year old now!

I never imagined that I'll learn how to write a blog, how to do affiliate marketing, how to do digital marketing, and many more in just one year!

I remember just over a year ago, I was hesitating to write a blog because of many reasons such as:

  1. I'm ESL and not good at writing
  2. I doubt I will actually make money from blogging
  3. Maybe Wealthy Affiliate is just another scam
  4. Why would people read my blog
  5. I don't have time to do this

Today, as I reflect back, I realize the great job that I did in building my blog. I am not trying to brag but at the same time I must be proud of myself on how much hard work I put into my site. Sure my blog is nowhere near being perfect but the fact that it didn't exist last year is something to be proud of.

Anyway, I want to share the important lessons that I've learned in the past 12 months!

5 Important Lessons that I've Learned From My 1 Year of Blogging

1. Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam

Oh dear, I've got so much from Wealthy Affiliate! Not just from Kyle's informative (but sometimes dated) training, but also from Jay's live-one-hour-designed-to-supplement-Kyle's-training! And of course from the many people who patiently answers my question.

I also made money from their affiliate program so I know making money with Wealthy Affiliate is plausible.

The blogging tools and services that they provide also helped me build a wonderful website.

2. There are lots of resources to be found on the internet, FOCUS on Wealthy Affiliate's Training

I didn't do well on this one.

I bought and/or enrolled in online classes about digital marketing, affiliate marketing, blogging and copywriting which made me distracted from finishing Wealthy Affiliate's Step-by-Step affiliate training.

If I will redo something about my affiliate marketing journey, I would be finishing (watching and doing all the task) the training in 6 months before buying additional resources.

3. Developing a blogging routine/ habit is crucial

I believe this is one of the most important things that any blogger or online business owner should develop early in their career.

As for me, I try to write (not post) an article every day at the same place and at the same time (usually at work- sorry I'm bad) to help my brain gear up once I see those "blogging cues".

Developing a habit will help you build your online business even if you are not in the mood.

If you want to learn more about how to build a habit, I recommend that you read Charles Duhigg's Power of Habit

4. Your friends/families will be your first customer

My first customer is my friend. Mind you, I didn't force him to buy. I think he just read the blog that I shared on my personal Facebook page.

From this experience, I would recommend that you keep sharing on your personal Facebook profile as you build your site's SEO and/or as you grow your business pages in various social media.

Of course, do not be too "sales pitchy" on your post. Always provide value ion each of your social media posts and don't forget the Call to Action to subscribe to Wealthy Affiliate.

5. Affiliate Marketing is a business, no business is free

The last thing that I want to share is affiliate marketing can make money through organic traffic, but if you are in a rush to make money, then you need to be prepared to spend money on PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns and/or in social media advertising campaigns.

Just think of it, do you know a brand who is not engaged in digital marketing?

Stats show that many brands are willing to spend more than 50% of their advertising budget on digital advertising.
