Balancing Blogging & Family Life: What’s Working for Me Right Now

Hey everyone,

I’ve been feeling re-energised lately after starting Kyle’s Affiliate Bootcamp. It gave me the reset I needed.

Because honestly, my previous blog didn’t feel like it had the right identity or niche for the audience I really wanted to serve.

This time around, everything just clicks. My niche feels right, my content has purpose, and the results are showing.

Even though I still work full-time and have a teenage son (plus the usual family life chaos), I’ve managed to achieve a lot in a short time since launching my new blog. I’ve got 25 posts live, another 30 planned, and my socials are up and running. It feels good to finally have everything moving in the right direction.

Finding a Routine That Works

My blogging time usually happens in the evenings... Once Will’s done his homework and my wife’s in “chill mode.” That’s my quiet window to focus.

One thing that’s helped massively is keeping my Notes app handy. Anytime I get an idea, whether it’s a headline, post concept, or quick thought, I jot it down. Those little sparks add up fast and save me so much time later.

Using AI & Tools to Stay Ahead

Compared to when I first joined Wealthy Affiliate, the AI tools we now have have made everything so much more efficient. I try to stay a few steps ahead by having blog posts and social drafts ready to go.

If there’s a day when life takes over, I can still hit publish without feeling behind. I also use a social media scheduling tool that keeps my posts queued and automatically publishing. It has been a total lifesaver.

The Power of Focus

Honestly, the biggest shift for me has been narrowing down my niche and target audience.

It’s easy to drift off-topic, but having that clarity means I’m working smarter, staying consistent, and reaching the right people. It’s made a huge difference in how I plan content and measure success.

I’m building for a future where I work for myself, and every little step now is helping me get closer to that.

The Wealthy Affiliate Advantage

The WA Hub has been incredibly helpful for brainstorming ideas around my audience. And the latest Jaaxy update has made SEO research more precise and enjoyable. I spent 15 minutes on it last night and came up with so many ideas... Definitely a game-changer!

Plus, the Bootcamp community has been a big source of motivation! Everyone cheering each other on, sharing ideas, and offering encouragement.

That sense of community is something I’d recommend to any newcomer. The training and support here really do make all the difference.

A Note for Fellow Parents

If you’re a parent trying to balance everything, please remember... It’s okay to have those days when you don’t feel productive.

Even one small action toward your goal counts as progress. Don’t beat yourself up. Parenting is a full-time job, especially with younger kids. I’d love to say it gets easier as they grow, but really, the focus just changes.

You’re still doing amazing work.

How about you? What’s one thing that’s helped you balance family life and blogging lately?

John

Thank you John
It sounds like you have found your special place online now. Many of us find we have chosen the wrong niche or/and the wrong audience more than once, but by not giving up and keeping focused, eventually we find where we belong.

I went through quite a number of niches before coming to WA, now I am where I want to be and doing what I love.

You are never alone here

Thanks Jeff,

Sounds like we've been on a similar path in the past. It can be frustrating at times...

I'm hoping this is the one that works for me. Wishing you the best with your projects too!

It sure sounds like it John

Over the years of promoting the wrong niche and targeting the wrong audience, I did learn a lot of things not to do.

Right now starting my first email marketing campaign, hopefully it goes well without too much frustration.

I am happy you have found your place online
Jeff

Cheers Jeff! Good luck with the email campaign.

J

Thank you John

Being my first email campaign, I am a little nervous about doing this right

Jeff

Thanks for sharing your experience with the new bootcamp. For me, I have been working harder and soon smarter, I guess. I've already scheduled articles for the whole year since February this year. I have been doing this since 2020. I'm now working on articles for 2026.

However, I need traffic. That means I still don't have enough to earn me $1/day through Google AdSense yet, which is a goal. I still get pennies a day, which is not great for hundreds of articles. Something must be wrong, and I still don't know what it is.

John

Hey John,

Thanks for your thoughts... It's great to hear you have a content schedule. But if you're not seeing traffic, it might be worth looking at why... SEO for your content needs to be right, but then thinking is it answering the questions your target audience has? I'm not the expert, but I am getting traffic on this new site organically as the SEO is hitting the right notes.

The training at WA is good, but my failures in the past have been about getting the right niche for the right audience - meaning the traffic hasn't been great as it isn't all hooking up. I wouldn't profess to be an expert, and I haven't seen your site.

But it does look like something isn't right to have so much content with little traffic. Maybe one to think about your strategy. What solution are you trying to offer for what problem?

Maybe ask a question in the community and get some advice on how you could tweak your strategy.

Wishing you the best,

John

Thanks, John. I have been asking, and many experts say the site looks great, so it's not about design but about the niche or the keywords and much more. I can't seem to pinpoint what's not right for now.

John

I hope you are able to get the info you need, so then you can leveraging your site.

All the best,

J

I'll keep looking or just working on it to improve.

I see... Thanks for sharing! I don't think I could ever balance it out like that if I have a kid. Great job I would say. I even had trouble to do so when I have so much free time on my hands. Only this time I am getting more serious than I was before. Good luck with everything! Seems you are really doing great job.

Hey Linda,

It can be a balancing act. Especially as he's got older. Getting him to do homework can sometimes feel like a job, but it's about using the time I have effectively.

I do admit I did "play at it" with my first blog. Expecting results without the work. I think being a parent helps you learn how to be efficient... we don't always get it right.

Thanks for your input. I hope your business is going in the right direction?

All the best,

John

I see :) First time my website was more like a hobby :) I hope it does too

I think a lot of us could say we didn't treat our first site right... But I think it can be part of the learning curve and seeing what does work and what doesn't.

Wishing you the best Linda,

J

I had been a bit afraid of that AI bulk writing but the more I read about its benefits, and how it helps creators get articles posted onto their websites even during busy days, I am thinking
I should use it also. I will revisit the bootcamp lesson 3 and follow Karls' lead on Bulk writing. MAC

Hey Michael,

Thanks for your input on the blog. The AI bulk tool is alright. But my key learning with the content tool is to consider your prompt you give it. Even if you do want to build posts by bulk, give each a specific instruction.

I've put together a brand voice prompt that I give to it for each post, so then the post writes in the way I want it. Then I go through each post and ensure it resonates well.

AI gets us so far... Then the rest is about tweaking it to match our voice. So far the results have been alright using this prompt.

I would agree AI has it's benefits, but it can't do everything for you.

All the best with Bootcamp!

Hi John

The bootcamp is an awesome recap indeed.
Taking us from a to z!

As for me?

AI helped me find my voice again: rephrasing, polishing, and adding just the right touch of quirk and melody 🎵

Ps
For this who missed the start:
