2020 Vision

They say hindsight is 20-20 - and they are so right!

As I write this there are a mere 23 days of 2019 to go and I don't know about you but I have a number of thoughts that run through my mind as the new year approaches.

Of course there are the usual trivial thoughts like "Wow, doesn't time fly" and "It seems like only yesterday that ....." and so on but also, in quieter moments, I reflect on what I've actually done in the past 12 months.

What successes have I had at work, at home, online? Have I made a difference? What have I done right? What have I done wrong? And what have I neglected to do? What did I start but not carry through? What did I say I would do and then 'forget' about?

I think about all those things and I write them down - It really helps to see it in writing because by doing this you are asking your mind questions and when you do that your mind just can't help but go to work on the answers. So as you work toward your hopes and desires over the course of the next year you will find the answers and you will make a difference.

Me? I just went premium at WA a couple of weeks ago and over the last 12 months I have had successes at work and home but none online. I have too often been distracted by shiny objects and all the focus that I had has disappeared, literally into the ether. I have started and not finished half a dozen projects, bought into many products and courses and got nowhere and actually even got scammed once - but that's another story.

This year my focus is on ..... my focus!

Making sure there are no more distractions! And next December I will do the same exercise and compare the two lists - good luck to me!

So, what does your list look like? What are you going to correct? What is your vision for 2020? Please leave a comment below.

All the very best to you all

I hear you, I'm working on focusing too. No distractions.
Here's to a successful 2020 🥂

Thank you for sharing your plans and how your year went.
Congratulations to going premium.
My plan for 2020 is to optimize my website.

Here we are coming up to New Year's Resolutions once again.
the gym where I go will be packed for a few weeks in January - and then attendance will tail off again.

Most of us have similar goals - health, finances, relationships, vocational, etc. The difference I feel is how we go around achieving those goals.

Procrastination is a real problem with me too. I have actually bought books about procrastination and how to develop goals, etc., but then procrastinated about reading them.

I think for me, the best way to stay on track is to develop the following:

Get a reason why I need to accomplish these goals
Work backward from 3-months goals, then do monthly, weekly and daily goals that will lead to accomplishing the 3-month goals;
Make all the goals smart

SMART goals

Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-bound

And especially to quantify the goals - develop metrics that can be checked off each day.

Most of those folks at the gym have some nebulous goals like "get healthier", "exercise more". I believe we have to have concrete goals our minds can focus on.

Then visualization helps too - review the goals every AM when you are planning for the day - and visualize achieving them.

Anyway, that reply got kind of long but ... it is achieving a goal to be more active in WA!

Dave.

Great reply Dave - I totally agree, I just didn't use the word 'Goal' :-) And you are bang on with the gym analogy, that's been me as well!
Cheers
