Obesity and surgical weight loss

Obesity: Should I Have Weight-Loss Surgery? I have been blessed with a normal weight unless pregnant. Than I went from 110# to 190# :-(, but had Toxemia. Came home with baby @ 135. Being heavy is hard for me to relate to. Now smoking is another story. I did manage to quit 8 months prior. What a battle. If that is anything like the urge to eat, I sincerely feel for those who are large people.

Adjustable Gastric Band – This is where the Surgeon doctor will then wrap a device around the upper part of your stomach to form a ring. Attached to the ring is a thin tube leading to an access port that is left under the skin. The access port is the place where the doctor puts in a needle to add or take away saline. Adding saline tightens the band and makes the stomach smaller

Gastric Sleeve Surgery - More than half of your stomach is removed, leaving a thin vertical sleeve, or tube, that is about the size of a banana. Surgical staples keep your new stomach closed. Because part of your stomach has been removed, this is not reversible.

Sometimes this surgery is part of a larger approach to weight loss done in several steps. If you need to lose a lot of weigh.

Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass - , only a small part of the stomach is used to create a new stomach pouch, roughly the size of an egg. The smaller stomach is connected directly to the middle portion of the small intestine (jejunum), bypassing the rest of the stomach and the upper portion of the small intestine (duodenum).

Biliopancreatic Diversion and Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch –(This Procedure is the most drastic I believe, just my opinion.) changes the normal process of digestion by making the stomach smaller. It allows food to bypass part of the small intestine so that you absorb fewer calories. Because of the risks, this surgery is for people who are more than severelyobese who haven't been able tolose weight any other way. Super obesity means that you have aBM (body mass index) of 50 or higher.

Post surgery: People normally confront the dumping syndrome which is diarrhea. and make you feel faint, shaky, and nauseated. It also can make it hard for your body to get enoughnutrition

After all weight Loss Surgery there is ALWAYS Nutritional Concern. After surgery, you will need to learn new ways to eat. You'll need to eat very slowly and chew your food well. You will not be able to drink for 30 minutes before eating, during your meal, and for 30 minutes after eating. If you don't make these changes, you may vomit frequently and have pain. You may also develop nutrition problems.

Your doctor may recommend calcium, iron, magnesium and vitamin supplements.

Often, many patents/clients are infused with protein due to their bodies not getting enough from their small intake of food.

There are Hospitals that specialize in this type of Surgery. I would go to one who does if considering this life style change. You ARE changing your life and want the best care possible

When your target weight is reached, the excess tissue will need removal. Another reason to find a specialty Hospital.

You present some great information!

Yes. Hope some take it to heart. Thanks for adding your input.

If you are interested in my input then you might consider rephrasing your first paragraph. Most overweight people do not want to hear that you don't have a problem with your weight. I know it's the truth but you might not reveal your exact weight. Just maybe the fact that you are interested in weight loss.
I certainly can relate to you. I only need to lose 10 more pounds to be down to my pre-pregnancy weight and I want to lose it but my friends and family (and husband) who need to lose 50 lbs do not see it and think I'm ridiculous.
I don't think you will be able to draw in people who are overweight when you state that you don't have a problem.
I think your research on it is wonderful and you've obviously put a lot of time into it. If you still want to talk about your personal weight, I wouldn't do it in your first paragraph. Maybe further down, when they have taken advantage of your wealth of information.
Hope this helps. Best of luck going forward.
Dawn

Hey Dawn, thankx for the input. You made many good points I honestly didn'[t think of, prior to writing the Blog. You are correct .. My personal weight should not have been put into the blog. I honestly don't know why I did, now that I think about the issue.
Will give putting any type of "personal" issue into a blog much more thought in the future. I am very new Dawn. Was just trying to inform others.
Answer to your previous question, I doubt I will be posting this iinformation on my site.
The main reason I made a post on my Blog is: I was asked for the information regarding types of surgery a problems that could arise.
Again, thank you for the input. :-) Best of luck to you too.
Joann

This is great information. Are you planning on using this as a post on your website?
