A light bulb just turned on in my head - Site Optimization!
7
Twiddling my thumbs, spinning my wheels
Whenever I went into SiteManager > Details for my sites, I was always disappointed to see that the ratings never really improved.
Then I realized that maybe... just maybe... I had to actually DO something to get those numbers up, rather than just moaning about it.
After searching WA's training (amazing resource, that!), I stumbled across several posts about site optimization. Then I got to work.
Traction... and... ZOOM! Well, close enough.
- First, I installed the Autoptimize plugin and ran that: BAM! Improved 12%
- Then, I deleted my old SiteRubix site and removed an unnecessary redirect that Google was complaining about: BAM! Improved another 3%
- Finally, as I was looking at the other stuff under Details, I noticed that my SiteSpeed+ Site Speed caching option was toggled to Accelerated. I had totally missed that I could kick it up to Extreme! I don't know if that option was always there or not, but you can bet that I jumped on it now!: BAM again! For a total jump from a 20 rating to 42!
Not spectacular progress, but it brought a smile to my usually scowling mug. :-) Still plenty of work to do. It still takes almost six seconds for the site to fully load. But I'm on it!
