As a starter I am not sure at what stage of development of my website I should join an affiliate program.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will join a few programs as per your advice.

When you have a steady stream of traffic visiting your sight. But in the mean time you can join affiliate programs just to get ready for the day.

When is my website ready for affiliate programs?

There are several suppliers of similar items. Some products are complimentary. Visitors to my website may want to see different choices. Is this acceptable?

You need to be sure to read the "fine print" of your agreements with various affiliates to ensure that you're not violating some obscure provision in them. GoDaddy, for example, had an affiliate requirement that you couldn't rank any other hosting provider better than them. (GoDaddy has ended its direct affiliate program and now works through other affiliate programs. I'm unable to find their new terms for affiliates to see if that restriction is still in effect.)

Thanks BobBarr for this insight. Yeah, there is need to look at the "fine print" otherwise......

I think it makes sense to give people choices so I'm sure its ok especially if you are focused in your niche and I agree with the point that its your website and you can do what you think works best.

Thanks Lylette for your thoughtful words. They are very helpful.

It is your website and you can do what you want with it. There are several different types of reviews and a comparison review works well in some niches. The works especially well when you are comparing wealthy affiliates to other online marketing training.
I would recommend not to talk about more than three different products maximum in one article because it confuses your potential reader and it's also lessens your ability to give them a clear call to action.
All of these things mean less conversions. Hope this helps if not ask again

Thanks so much for your comments. I will take your advice not to talk about too many different products in one article.

you are welcome but my rule is keep it super simple

I am sure you can cause when you go to amazon they show you different prices from different vendors.

Thanks tommydillard. Your reasoning makes lots of sense.

Many people are very apprehensive of going into business. More so a business where they are not dealing on a one-on-one. How do we help them overcome that fear?

Sorry, I put this comment in the wrong place, my bad! Hello and welcome to the best community you could ask for. I first tried to start an online business in 2003, I was so scared that I just stopped trying. I tried again in 2007, still scared, but I was determined. It failed, I couldn't believe it, I tried so hard to make it work. Again, I just stopped. It was pretty depressing and I thought, never again! Unfortunately for me, in 2009, I was diagnosed with COPD & degenerative bone disease. I couldn't deal with irate customers at work, so I lost my job. OK, I'm stuck! Was did some research on the company I tried in 2007, when I came across WA link when I read a scam report about that company. Well, I have never gotten over the fear of starting an online business, but here I am, trying again. With that being said, I am more confident then ever that I will succeed here. I have found my site linked on page 1 & 2 of Google, "I'm so happy"! Truly still scared.

Thanks Pmenke2 for sharing your personal experience which is so inspiring. That is great encouragement to those who have the fear to go into online business.
