Badwolf this is exactly why I don't buy domains from Godaddy. 1on1 and Namecheap include privacy in their domain price. Each offer .com domains for $11 for year or less.

Ok messed up my first blog! So I will comment on it. Went to Go Daddy for the 99 cent deal, had no problem ,bypassed all the extras they were trying to sell me. Then today got an email from someone trying to sell me their services for basically everything I will eventually learn here at WA. They might be legit or maybe not, not the point. So after further investigation discovered that any one can find out your name, address, phone number , all thru your domain name. I then decided to get Privacy protection at Go Daddy done by a second party "Domains by proxy" . Paid for at Go Daddy which would not take a coupon for 35% off this service. Cost was 10 dollars.

Domains by proxy sent email that was supposed to have sign in information.... which it did not . Had a to jump thru hoops to finally get all I needed to sign in to check settings etc. This took a couple of hrs. to straighten this out.

Now I had a Domain with Name Cheap once before , which comes with Whois guard , which is their privacy protection, included with the domain for the first year at no extra cost. This would have cost less than what the 99 cent deal at Go Daddy. I learned a few things from this experience.

So to my fellow newbies here at WA Just something to keep in mind when getting your domain.

Thanks for letting me vent .... was seeing red there for awhile .

Yeah, without a Privacy or Whoisguard your info is all public.

Yes, it's a good deal, I use them all the time, but many here like Namecheap as they give you free whois guard.
If you use Godaddy, make sure you don't buy any of the extra junk they try push on you.
Plus once you're up and running, turn auto renew off, that way you can renew when you're ready and also search for a promo code to use during the checkout when renewing.

Thanks Welshy I will do that. I just kinda freaked out when some one had my name and info.
