When it comes to getting started in blogging and establishing a new website, everyone wants to know how often you should post a new blog post. The answer to this question I am sure has been shared by many bloggers and this is a very important answer to hear especially for those who signed up here to learn how to make money with their blogs. There is no one clear cut answer but I do want to share with you a few guidelines as far as quantity of posting is concered.

When starting out

When you are new to blogging, I personally recommend that you post only 2-3 times a week. The reason I mention this is because you want to build up consistency before you start putting out more content. So many new bloggers out there make the mistake of going to fast. They put to much content out to soon and then either run out of things to blog about or they just burn out. What ends up happening as a result is they abandon their blog and it never gets any sort of traction.

What you are doing is a marathon, not a sprint. So please pace yourself. Once you are comfortable doing 2-3 times a week, then you can post more content if you wish. But even as you start doing more, still add more at a gradual pace.

Something to keep in mind

While I mention posting only 2-3 times a week as a beginner, it is even better if you post more if not every day ideally. I personally have only been able to post minimally 2-3 times a week, and compared to my fellow bloggers here who have posted more, my success seems a lot smaller compared to theirs. My point is that you get out of this what you put in. I didnt start seeing money from my personal blogging efforts until 15 months in as a result of going at my snails pace. But I did know I would eventually get there, and it hasnt stopped ever since. You don't have to take as long as I did considering I went slow. But understand that in order to get there faster, you will have to do at least a little bit more than I am doing.

So my final answer

The more content you can post on your blog every day, the better for you especially if you are trying to make money. Posting more content allows more pages to get indexed in Google faster as well as ranked faster.

But it is more important to stay consistent. Consistency allows you to not burn out as well as establish a routine. Routines are especially important when you are also working a job on the side while building a blog out.

If you establish a routine and build up to getting more content out there than 2-3 times, you will eventually see success and at a faster rate.

So go out there and produce more content and hopefully more success.

Jessie

My goal from the beginning, Jessie, is to post a minimum of 8 articles per month - and, if I exceed that, I am ecstatic.

I find that at least half of the folks I give advice to in SiteFeedback post no more than 1 or 2 articles per month - and sometimes they skip a month or two - or more - not posting any articles.

And, they wonder why they are not getting Google traction. The low posting frequency is one of the main reasons that they aren't hitting page 1 or 2 consistently.

Another reason is low word count. Even some WA-ers who post 8 or more articles per month have word counts less than 500 words per post - some are even below 100 words.

Needless to say, I continually call both of these issues out as warning flags with almost every website I analyze.

I know for some posts, word counts may not be important - as long as the ideas of the posts are sufficiently put forth. But, my advice is to try and average 1,000 words per post. Some will be less - some will be more.

But, a post with only a hundred-or-so words - is not a post. It's a hiccup.

Hi Jessie,
I only get to post 2-3 times per week. In an ideal world it would be at least twice that. I would like to see more traction on my site, and I know it's because I can't keep up the volume at this point.
Cheers

At least you are consistent. Once you are earning significant revenue and you have more time, it will get a lot better.

Normally, there's no specific frequency for posting but experts advised to post frequently, particularly, every day. So, if you can cope with posting on an everyday basis, it would be at an advantage. It will help you rank your blog as soon as possible in SERPs. Thanks for asking!

Thank you for the extra confirmation. I definitely don't disagree with experts. They are experts for a reason and I have seen the differences in posting frequency first hand from what I am doing versus others.

Thank you Jessie, this was very helpful. we have to pace ourselves not get burn out early.

Excellent strategy, Jessie.
Persistent effort always wins the race. Better to start small and slow, ... and grow, ... than start with a big bang and die early.
The tortoise and the hare ...
Everyone one wants to start at the top.
You have to be a teller before you can manage a big bank.
Continued success.

Great analogy Paul.

I have seen a lot of big bangs here at WA when it comes to the bloggers.

Very good point Jessie to at least stay consistent
