Protect your personal information when you are buying new domain!

I get this question sometimes. This is why it's worth protecting your personal information when registering a domain.

Okay. What's domain privacy?!

It's simple all your sensitive information such as: Name, address, phone number, etc got hide from Whois Records. That mean if someone cannot see your private informations.

Here if you add domain privacy you'll see something like this:

Godaddy: Between $7.99 to $9.99.

Namecheap: First year free, next year $2.88 per year.

What's the "Pros"?!

  • Avoid get flooded by spam.
  • Avoid to get unwanted phone calls. Read this blog about a real story fromBrenda.
  • Hides your personal information from public view in WHOIS records.

Conclusion

It's entirely up to you if you want to add that feature. Namecheap give you a free year in the first year if you buy a domain with them. You can try. :)

In my point of view, I recommend add private domain registration.

What do you think?! I'd love you to comment.

Thank you

Jorge

I've heard an alternate angle to this - that people may not trust the site if they cannot check who the owner is. It's easy enough to put any phone number in, such as from a free prepay sim card, it doesn't actually have to be your own home number so that's that problem solved.

Also, I think it's just plain wrong that you should have to pay extra to hide your personal details if you wish to do so. I'm not saying don't do it if it suits you to hide your details but I don't think its that big a deal personally.

I understand your point.

That's why you create an "About me". People does not want to get flooded of spammer o unwanted phone calls.. Just my opinion :)

Yes but the thing is Jorge, 99.9% of all the spam you get will come from the details you have put on your About Me page! That will often include a phone number and almost certainly an email address because people expect it .

So I don't see that it makes a lot of difference whether you add domain privacy or not. I just don't see the point, especially if it makes your site less trustworthy.

It's foolish not to buy privacy protection - I never buy a domain unless I have privacy protection -

Hey Leo!

Yeah. Is more smart use privacy protections. Like you I have all my domains protected.

I believe in you too :)

Mine privacy protection was inclusive when I purchased my domain name from Namecheap. However, once the year long package expires I'm more than willing to pay for it.

Charlene! :)

How's you?! Yeah i that's why I love Namecheap becuase they are great. I am a Namecheap fan.

Like you I am more willing to pay for WhoisGuard.

I wrote month ago about my experience in Namecheap. :)

Jackie!

I am very happy you commented in my blog. lol

Thank for your kind words. Yeah I want to write blogs like you and Beverley. No just blah blah blah

I got some questions here. I think it's necessary to discuss that. :)

I forgot to say Mwah! :)

100% agree! I have it for free now, but after the year I will definitely purchase the privacy option.

Genevieve!

Aw good to know you have your info secured. Hey you will make a great choice in renew your WhoisGuard suscription.

I like it becuase I haven't any issue about getting unwanted emails, phone calls, etc.

I love WhoisGuard than Godaddy becuase is cheaper too. :D

I love WhoisGuard + namecheap! ;) Either way, it's a good move. There's already a lot of our info online, better protect it when we can!

Yeah love both services as well! You are right my friend.

Yeah if we can safe our info. I don't mind in pay for that! :)

Great advise but it's 2.88 per year on Namecheap - not per month ;).

LOL. Thank you so much. I corrected the info. Thank you so much.

I love to have all my domains private. :)

Interesting. Really good discussion raised here.

Hey Alex,

Yeah. I saw some post about that and I got some messages about. That's why I decided in publish this blog. :)

Thank you Jorge for this thought provoking blog. I think that you are right, and I would want to keep certain things private. *Melanie*

Mlanie,

Thanks for comment. Yeah like you I want to have some information as secret.

Yeah I created this blog becuase I have a lot of questions about that. :)

I absolutely recommend using private domain registration. I get the free year from Namecheap and do the automatic renewal so I can set and forget. I've seen some members here blog that people are contacting them directly and they don't know how. Treat your private, personal information like you do your credit card number. Avoid the scammers and beware of identity theft.

Hey Rick

Where are in the same way my friend!

I have all my domains at Namecheap and I always add to WhoisGuard. I remember with one domain I forgot to add WhoisGuard and Namecheap support they add me that feature in less 15 min whe I contected them. :)

Yeah I remember Brenda bloggled about she got a phone call. Just ugh! :(

Anything that stops spam is worth it.

Yeah. I don't mind to spend $2.88 I don't want be spammed and also I love Namecheap becuase they are the best. :)
