So what is niche marketing? It is concentrating all marketing efforts on a specific but well defined segment of people. Niches are often created by identifying needs, wants and requirements that are otherwise being addressed poorly or not at all by other business. The objective of a niche marketer is to develop and deliver goods and services to satisfy these needs. The niche marketing strategy in selling to a small group of possible customers is to be a big fish in a small pond instead of being a small fish in a big pond. This picture illustrates what we mean.

A Niche Market …

If we look at the diagram above we can see that every month there are 11 billion searches in the United States every month. Of those, there are 513,480 searches on the keyword phrase “Wedding Dresses”, and there are over 600,000 searches on various phrases referring to wedding wedding attire for women. We can also see that there is a lot wedding attire sellers with websites, meaning that there is a lot of competition out there. We also see that there are 1,512 searches per month on the keyword phrase “Vintage Lace Wedding Dresses”. At the same time there are very few web sites addressing these products. Because the competition is low, there is a very good chance that your website will appear high up on the search results page on Google, Yahoo or Bing, and this in turn means that that there is a very good chance that visitor will click on your link and find the product they are looking for being advertised on your website. So, even though there are far few searches for Vintage Lace Wedding Dresses, than there are for “Wedding Dresses”, there is a much better chance of visitors clicking through to your website than if you were just to promote “Wedding Dresses” instead of “Vintage Lace Wedding Dresses.
