Watch out for this new malicious and terrifying phishing email

My husband got the most unusual phishing email we've ever seen. About a year ago, Microsoft let him know that his info had been compromised, so he changed all his passwords.

His main password from back then, now no longer in use, was used by this hacker to try to blackmail him.

Just like in the Black Mirror episode (they probably got the idea from there, it's straight out of that story of the young teen who gets blackmailed), my husband got an email this morning. The person wrote: you don't know me, but I have your password - he revealed it. He went on to say that they had hacked my husband's computer and his web cam, they caught him accessing a pornographic site, he sure had fun, didn't he? And they captured his fun on camera. They will now email that to all of his contacts, including everyone on Facebook and Messenger, unless he pays them $1,000 in Bitcoin.

This could really freak people out. It freaked us out for a second, until we realized that it is a total lie. How do we know? For these reasons:

  1. The obvious fact that it's an old password no longer used.
  2. My husband is a disciplined Christian man. He does not go to porn sites or anything like that.
  3. My husband's computer does not have a web cam (he's a computer guy, he knows.)
  4. My husband does not have accounts on Facebook or Messenger (he quit FB years ago).

Be watchful for this phishing email and spread the word - it's all lies. Don't let anyone fall for it.
