My first novel on alchemy you all are asking about

Everyone's been asking about my novel, which I finally finished writing and revising after many years of research and working on it. I completed it in June 2018 and landed an agent in August. She and I are putting on the final polishes before she begins pitching it to publishers.

This MIddle Grade novel is unique in that it is like a Potions Hogwarts textbook on real alchemy, as well as a fun novel to read (set in 1665 London) and a puzzle book to solve.

It looks like an old encyclopedeia on alchemy, but when you start reading it you discover there is something different about this book...something alive inside...can you learn alchemy, solve the puzzles and save the young alchemist's apprentice? The outcome will be different for every reader.

For those who just want a fun read, the book will dive you into the Great Plague of London in 1665, the streets empty and forlorn with the sick wandering outside at night. You'll meet the wiry, resourceful young Alpha who lost all family to the plague and had to survive the streets before being taken in as the alchemist's apprentice. Master Breretwissel is old and grumpy, but has some suprises of his own as he attempts to turn a street urchin into a proper apprentice.

This book is like: if one of the Hogwarts textbooks accidentally fell into muggle hands, what would happen? Just like other magical books from the wizarding world, there's something strange about it. :) It's my answer to wishing I could go to Hogwarts and take Potions class.

I will let you all know when the book comes out in print. This one is written in such a way that it will only work on paper - you need to be able to practice the alchemy symbols right in the book. :) It is a 4-book series and I sense that it's going to do very well. It's already generating a lot of excitement. Thanks to WA I'm using the tools here to build my author website and platform (as well as my niche site on all things coffee).

I do have one question for you all: should I add affiliate marketing to my author site? Like when I blog about books I like, either ones that have helped with my writing or that I enjoy? I would like to do reveiws like that once in a while, so I'm wondering if I should add my Amazon Associates or Viglink onto the site. Or should I keep affiliate marketing completely separate and off my author site? How would you react if you visited your favorite author's site and saw affiliate links there? (I definitely will not do ads.)

I crave your answers and thoughts, my friends. :)

Inspiring. 💖 This is a dream of mine. I love to write and have always wrote in a journal. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations Jerilyn. :)

Kind Regards,

Patricia

How are things going with this? Also, what did you decide about adding affiliate links to your author site? I've seen some older sites/posts that suggest doing that but I don't know if they're still current.

Hi! I just sent the latest set of revisions back to my agent and she has it now. It's a multi-layered book, so it's taking time to hone it and get it perfect before she starts pitching it to publishers.

I haven't worked on my author site much lately, but yes I think I will add the occasional affiliate link for particular books or products to do with the craft of writing which have really helped me, things like that. Amazon Associates gave me the boot (no sales yet) but I have Vigilink so I'm not worried about that.

The first book I read as a child was Lord of the Rings and have been geeked out on wizardry since. Look forward to the release party too.

Congrats are in order for such a tremendous achievement! Well done, indeed.

Could this be another Lovecraft Necronomicon!?

Oooo, I need to read that one!!!

Way to go, you did it! What a great accomplishment! As one who spent a career in book publishing, I wish you well!

Thank you so much!!!
